Why was the "Who knows this logo on my Seamaster" thread closed?

Thanks for this, I’m off down the rabbit hole again .

Now I’m trawling African airways logos from the 60s and 70s, Nigeria Air is close (but green, so nope), and Zambia is not dissimilar. Off out for the day now, so good luck everyone :p

when you google the family names Sodipo and Omenai they are both Nigerian names. This is a good direction but I am fairly sure there were no airlines with this Logo in Nigeria at that time. Nigeria as a country is full of Eagle symbols so it does not narrow it down much.

The third rock from the Sun has over 200 countries, right? @89-0 might have eliminated 99.5% of them. However in the 1960s I knew quite a few Nigerians who had emigrated to the UK, call it 99% ;)

Wow. Just wow!

With this development, I’m guessing someone’s going to solve it in the next 24 hours.

I guess my theory that the logo is a happy winged llama doesn't hold much water considering that there probably aren't so many llamas in Nigeria.

There was a Mr Omenai in Nigeria who was "appointed Federal Permanent Secretary in 1962. While in that position, he served in the federal ministries of Internal Affairs (1962-1965); Aviation (1965-1966); and Transport (1966-1967). He also served as Chairman, Nigerian Airways, Nigerian National Shipping Line, Nigerian Ports Authority, and Civil Aviation Training Centre, Zaria."
If this is the gentleman who received the watch it suggests we are on the right track looking at the transportation sector. Agree with comments above though that most Nigerian government/agency logos look nothing like what we have.

I did a lot of searching for Nigerian company symbols back when the Omani watch surfaced but found nothing at the time. With both now though, I'd say that we are back on the hunt!

I have nothing to contribute here other than an excited spectator with a big bag of Carmel corn.

I'm at the office today, which will no doubt be slow, so I intend to devote my whole day to this.

Past my sleep time but just had a thought. Check the national birds of countries. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_national_birds I did a quick scan and the African fish eagle (eagle beak) is the national bird of Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia. Nigeria's national bird looks nothing like our logo. Too late for me to go thru every country tonight though.

I tried using the trademark lookup but I can't seem to get any good results...or really understand it hah.
Here is the link for anyone who wants to give it a shot...

http://tmsearch.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=tess&state=4802:rv0oxd.1.1

Still not sure if this is only for US trademarks though.

I'm currently running on this query-
http://tmsearch.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=brws_img&state=4808:q7e3qy.9.1&p_L=100&p_toc=brws_img

It's for companies with an animal as part of a letter, there are 8412 results and it's 100 images per page.
Anyone wants to split some pages with me?
