Why was the "Who knows this logo on my Seamaster" thread closed?

The OP posted only five times and hasn't been seen for three years. A simple question has produced many hours of fruitless search and frustrating discussion.

@Davidt & @Gav1967 you should have a look at this link and the subsequent comments, which were from a couple months ago 😁

Specifically, it’s the same watch/seller and the Ene Eagle meaning 😀

This whole saga is like one continuous Deja Vu loop. Like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day 😲 😵‍💫 😁

Man I’m so glad you posted this. I knew I’d seen that watch and name before but couldn’t find the thread and thought I was going crazy!!

I personally spent about 4-5 hours digging through a trademark database, as well as researching every old picture from Nigeria I could find, as well as African airlines, etc. Not a single example "in the wild" could I come up with for that logo. Even the Nigerians that chimed in on a Reddit post about it stated that it was from an old Oil company, but I could find no proof of this.

The takeaway from all of it is that we are predisposed to think that pretty much all information is available on the web somewhere and that simply is not the case.

I also spent more time than I care to admit looking for the origin of the logo.
Even with the information we DID have to go on...still nothing.

It's the same with old movies and TV shows, we tend to think everything is available to be streamed whenever we want, but a shockingly small amount of material is available on demand at any one point. Unless you have it on DVD you aren't likely to find it when you want to view it, it may appear for awhile on a streaming site and then it will disappear. Example: I have the 12 episodes of Fawlty Towers on DVD that I bought probably 20 years ago, always enjoyable to watch 'The Waldorf Salad' or 'Basil the Rat' when I want some cynical comedy, and about a year ago they were all available on either BritBox or Acorn on demand, great, no need to use the DVDs. Except now they have disappeared and are shown as 'currently unavailable'. Glad I have the box set sitting on my shelf.

I'd like to see the 1970s Lorna Doone with Patrick Troughton
Or the Sam Neil docusieries on Oppenheimer.
The good version of Rebecca with Jeremy Brett.

Why do they keep remaking these? And pretend the good versions do not exist?

Then there are those 97 Dr Who episodes especially Evil of the Dalecks.

I am now convinced this the symbol of the evil Daleck empire. Known only to those who already know.

The irony is the stuff can not be streamed because the producers do not want to pay the residuals to the actors. That is why the later is on strike at the time of this writing. The content providers game things to keep the costs low. The estates of dead actors though can be rather demanding. So the problems go both ways.

The only time they release the old war horses is when something more recent fails and they need cash quickly.

I also would like to see Disney release more of the pre mickey stuff. Such was shown in the 1980s on shows like the mouse factory when it was found. Probably in an attempt to keep it trademarked. Sure it is academic, but interesting. I think they clawed Oswald back from universal. The Alice stuff shows up from time to time.

This stuff was also shown on the Sunday anthology show.

I have close to 300 DVDs an bulRay disks. Also have a dozen or two laser disks for this reason. Eventually the plastic gears and belts fail in the players, so one winds up with no way to play the media.

It is a Daleck conspiracy I tell you.

Or perhaps an evil genius with a sick sense of humor drew it and then posted it on the internet for no reason other than to mess with people like us. Who would do such a thing?

This YT channel has the version of Rebecca you are looking for (starts with BBC on the page):
https://www.youtube.com/@andreakeefa2741/videos

And the version of Lorna Doone I couldn't find online, but you can buy the DVD's of it on Ebay for around $20 shipped.

Too bad it is not in focus. Reminds me of the many single poster shots of watches here.

Back in the day I had a plugin that could download YT vids. Then they wanted to charge for it. Funny how morals work. If no money changes hands is it still stealing? Many of us grew up in the era of over the air telly and video tape timeshifting devices. My time has value the same as yours. How I choose to waste it should not be a subject of judgement.

Soon they will start wanting to charge to view pictures online of watches culled from old ephemera. My toys my sandbox attitude. It gets really annoying when one realizes their dreams are subject to trademark and copyright.

How then are we ever to find out then what this icon/logo is? One will have to pay just the same as they did to see the gold brick, Or the man eating chicken.

Perhaps then this icon really is a man eating chicken. Would that make it a representation of a geek then?

(edit becouse something was backwards.)

I wonder how many kW-hrs of power we've used collectively searching for the source of that logo? I know I've burned through my fair share of electrons.

This logo is bad for the environment. We should name it the Evil Eagle.

Google seems to be much better at facial recognition than exact image recognition, which I find kind of fascinating. I have pictures that I've taken of class photos from 2nd and 3rd grade - so we are talking an image of a face that is not particularly large, and not as defined as it originally was too (poor man's scanner - used my cell phone), and in my Google Photos if I look for pictures of myself, those photos come up. Despite me being almost 43 now, it knows that one of the kids in those photos is me.

I find it fascinating how personal privacy is gone. At the time, you were a kid and never agreed to have your photo available to anyone forever. Yet, now the photo gets posted by someone else, someone says that the guy 3rd from the left is Joe Smith, and now it's there for anyone.
