And this had been such an interesting thread.

I find it much more interesting now. We have somebody to abuse!

Opportunities to abuse someone are more common than redial discussions.

AAAAAAHHHHHG!!!😲 That's the 105.012 you're talking about @padders! 😲 D'you mean the first watch on the Moon was a 'fakkin' replica with funny blobs of metal?😲 I like my "blobs of metal" and "ruined purity"! I particularly like them on a furry background!😟

You are really really hairy!

I raise you with mine, full of unadulterated Straight Lug goodness, but less fur!:

Hi All,

May 2018 has seen more than double the number of listings for Speedmasters compared to May 2017. The month started with a couple of 105.003-65s offered for sale and ended with 2998-4 (only the second one offered since I started tracking sales in Nov 2016).

Guys. I read every single post in this thread and after seeing @kov post his speedies and also stalking all of @MaiLollo pictures on Instagram I'm now refocused on my "get a damn 321 speedy" goal.

How in the world did I get side tracked by military watches and vintage heuer for this long

145.012
Produced in 1967-1969
The last of the calibre 321 speedmasters.

1969 , then is the Story of the "real" Speedmaster over ! (for me) All other watches are "replicas" for business interest.

While I agree that the pre-moon Speedy's are more interesting, the fact that they were continuously made by the same company to this very day means they are not replicas.

Dude if you want to be snobby about it, it could be argued that the watch died when they stuck those funny blobs of metal between the pushers and ruined the purity of the straight lug case. I don’t personally think that but it is as valid an arbitrary cut off as yours for what is a ‘real’ Speedmaster.

Of course the Speedy's prior to the blobs of metal are worth more BUT I like the asymmetric cases much more from an aesthetic point of view. The fact that they were worn on the moon is the icing on the cake.

And you are in the right place to find an absolute 'corker'!😀 All that's needed is a keen eye and a nice, deep pocket👍

Yes, I guess a replica can be made by the original maker too.

I don't think it's appropriate in this context though because of the continuous production with little upgrades along the way. You just happen to draw the line with the change from 321 to 861 but I could have said the asymmetric case is the end of the real Speedmaster and all others thereafter are replicas. You could also draw the line in the sand when the NASA text was added after the moon landing, i.e. include '69 145.022s. Or you could say the loss of the step-dial was the end of the real Speedy's etc etc

hmm why make it that complicated ? you can still get a 861 with hesalite ... the next cut from my view is the switch from tritium to luminova.
i can enjoy my apolloXI from 94 like my 2998-4

in general i see more and more a lack of really very nice pieces on the market. even good 80-90's fullsets getting hard to find

Just read this post in its entirety - interesting and amusing in equal measures!

My thoughts, for what they're worth, is that the lack of 321's coming onto the market (though there has been more recently) also has something to do with family heirlooms, fathers handing down 321's bought new to their sons/daughters, and their reluctance to sell something so closely linked to their father, either live or sadly departed.

I could be totally wrong on this point, and probably am, but as someone who owns Omega watches bought new by both his father (105.003-64) and his grandfather (30T2), I can safely say that I would sell pretty much everything else in my possession before offloading either of these two pieces.

as the prices go up, you will see more...... kind regards. achim
Think so too, people are less likely to part with heirlooms for less significant money than if the money actually makes a difference and they are just keeping the watch as memento in drawer.

Hi All,

June and July has continued to see more listings than the corresponding period last year. A couple of straight writing speedmasters popped up in June and July (one still available) and a third one just yesterday.
