Is that a real deal of sought after Speedy or is it just result of hyper-inflation which is obviously coming? Or is it combination of both? All in all I’m happy one piece sits in my collection 😉

You mean this is the first time you took yours out the box and put it on your wrist?!

Well, @eugeneandresson, this is clearly a good news/bad news thread. Good news is there now seem to be alot of Alaska projects for sale. Bad news is people are asking 25 to 40k! 😲

Another example of "one of these days I will buy one but a little too much right now." 🙁 12k from a year ago (?) Seems cheap now.

I really have hard time to understand why would one pay 20k+ for a modern LE, something’s gone really wrong… Mayday, mayday…

How about those paying almost that for ones that aren't limited editions at all like the TinTin?

I think it’s all bad news, and that news is : 12k 2020 dollars = 25k 2021 dollars 😀

There will be a remake and hopefully not limited.

Second person to throw something like that down. Keen to share some more?

Thankfully several variants were made under this moniker for nasa between ‘68-‘79 (anyone with correct dates feel free to correct me) so if there is a grain of truth to it, it may be interesting 👍

Are they really? I have the feeling that level of prices only reflects the askings on C24.

All the noise about TinTin ended by altering the perception about that model. It's not an LE but somehow limited production. And everybody now running after everything limited.

Sigh. How many times do we have to point out that C24 asking price nonsense is not equal to actual watch value.

If I had a Tin Tin or any other childishly named watch (ie Snoopy, Hulk, Kermit, etc etc) I would be selling not buying. The current flood of cheap money and cheap credit wont last, and when the merrygoround slows, those will take a big hit.

Kid yourself your TinTin or better still coin Dial Apollo 17 (is that one worth anything yet?) is worth the mega money being asked all you like. Maybe you will get a strong price since all assets are going up, but the idiot who buys at the top of the market it will regret it sooner or later.

Not to disagree with your post in general (or to start a mass-debate 😗), but I personally have sold a single watch on C24 … and I got my fully listed price … which is no different to anywhere else I may have sold a watch.

Thread drift: Everytime I see the Tintin it reminds me of a London Bobbies helmut. I try to warm up to it but not yet.

Back to the Alaska: Still like it. Happy for all you trail blazers who bought what you loved instead of what was popular back when it was affordable.

Quite strong statement here. I’m not saying you’re not right because it’s your opinion but just want to share mine. Asking price in C24 in majority are not nonsense as you pointed out. Many times we have seen here discussion about nonsense 20.000€ asking price for white Snoopy few years ago. Today there is one unworn listed for 60.000€. Is it worth it? I don’t know, customers tell us. And if there is someone willing to pay it then it’s worth it. Is the buyer sooner or later an idiot? I would never say that. Were idiots those who bought white Snoopy for 20.000€? Obviously not. My experience is that only time will tell.

We are at the end of an inflated market where there has been huge Quantitative Easing (ie printing money) and a period of unprecedented commercial shutdown meaning there is a pent up wave of demand and as a result spending, as a result all assets, however how dodgy or vaucuous are going up. This wont last forever, indeed as inflation kicks in it will ease, or maybe even collapse. It is your call but I am willing to be that anyone who buys a Snoopy of any flavour today at, say £40K, will be nursing a pretty big hangover (ie actual loss) when they come to try to get out of it in about 2-3 years. We are living in mad times. If you are lucky to own something that has been caught up in the madness (I have a few bits myself) then now is the time to pass the hot potato on to someone else. The whole thing is based on the bigger fool theory.

I am not making this shit up. My job means I value and am around Veblen stuff every day, and as yet the trend is still up, but when the bubble bursts, it will probably burst big, they always do.

I’m not saying you’re wrong. That’s how I started my reply. What I don’t like about your original statement is that you call people buying expansive watches idiots. Not all people buy watches as an investment, many people wear them and enjoy wearing them, not thinking about the potential value in 2 or 3 years.

Do I agree with you about the definition of current situation we’re living in? Absolutely! Hyper inflation is pushing prices waaaay up and we’re just at the beginning. I agree with you.

Did I say that? I did say there may be idiots who buy at the top* and perhaps that was too strong in hindsight but I meant that generally. ie not relating to expensive or for that matter cheap watches. And only then if the buyer cares about resale, if they don't, then it is irrelevant.

In any event, expensive it completely relative, what is expensive to me is cheap to you perhaps, or vice versa.

*If my prediction did come to pass, the poor sod who paid top money for a given item which then fell big in value might self identify as an idiot regardless of my perhaps badly worded post anyhow...

If you didn’t say that then I just misunderstood what you said. My bad, sorry then (I’m not native in English ).

No I think in fact I did, it was my English that was at fault, I made some excuses above though.

Having grown up in aviation, the TinTin reminds me of the checkered paint on the P51D Mustang (middle) and I like it 👍
