Hi guys,
what should be a realistic price for a NOS Alaska Project at the moment?

C24 lists their value at 12.5~15k.

Hi guys,
what should be a realistic price for a NOS Alaska Project at the moment?

Hard to say without giving the cop out of “whatever the market will bear”

I know that a year or so ago they were selling in the £10k range, and had been sat at that level for some time. A doubling of price within a year for something like this seems excessive in my opinion.

The ones on Chrono sat at £20/30k haven’t shifted, and so it would seem there aren’t many people actually buying at these prices. There is another example on there from the UK that is in “good” condition with an asking price of about £15k (after enquiring) again it has been sat there for a while, so there can’t be much appetite for that price/condition combination.

£12k to £15k seems fair based on the above, but I’m sure dealers are happy to wait until they find someone willing to pay more. I guess if all dealers list them at £20k+ and just wait long enough until someone bites that will become the market price.

Interestingly there are about 10 sat on Chrono24 now ranging from £13k to £30k. Seems like that is a price people are happy to sell at, but the Chrono24 price ‘tracker’ hasn’t really shifted so I’m guessing there aren’t many people actually buying at these prices otherwise the ‘estimated value’ would also have jumped.

Very interesting, I didn't know the C24 price tracker took sold watches into account (vs. offered) - if so, that would be a million times more useful indeed.

Also interesting to hear your suggested price ranges for a NOS example.

I just regret not having jumped on one when I had the chance a few years ago 🤦

I don’t know for sure how their algorithm works, it may be as simple as taking the median or mean of the pricing with a weighting to account for time elapsed from older sales.

But if it took the “offered” pricing rather than the “sold” pricing (admittedly only using watches sold through the site), then it would have to have seen a jump in recent weeks/months as there isn’t a data point on there at or under the existing average price recommendation.

Seems like since this posting, the C24 ‘algorithm’ has made some gurgles and a burp…

And there are now 15 listings.

(edit: and 3 on fleabay)

Why do I care? I don’t 😀

Was simply all 🥰🥰🥰 today due to switching it out in the rotation, and figured I’d look and see what the magic C24 says…it may be cool to look back at this in time…

It’s hilarious that there really was a time when you couldn’t give these away and people didn’t like the white lume on white dial and made fun of the red thermal case. In a sea of LEs it really is one of the most unique and interesting now.

One of the guys at my local OB has one, and his was the first one I'd seen in real life. Honest to God, from photos alone, I couldn't care one whit for this watch. I have absolutely lousy eyesight, but even I, from ~15 feet away, could clearly see what he had on his wrist, and how much it absolutely popped. It's a total stunner in real life, and no photos I've ever seen come remotely close to how it looks in real life.

How long until these are listed at £20k+…..

I’ve been calling that ugly duckling the next big riser for a while, its low production, initially unloved and wildly different. While it may be hated in its time, so was the Alaska

Inflation will prove you right…eventually 😀 But who knows? Maybe gaudy-old-school coin dials become a thing? It certainly is unique (being a coin-dialed speedmaster)…I’ll give it that 👍

Has anyone else heard a rumor about a new Alaska project?

I think that was what they called the new Ed White before they announced it.

Cant say I’ve heard it anywhere other than this thread. Am personally always a bit skeptical of such rumours, and to be honest I’d rather it weren’t true. In my opinion it would be nice to have an LE which thought outside the box, took inspiration from something new, and could be judged solely on its own merits rather than being tied to an existing watch.

I have bought this one just because it fits my collection not because I liked it. But man if there is not a watch that looks much better in flash then this. As said - it is unique to all other LE Speedies. I can imagine it will be quite expensive watch one day.

Is that a real deal of sought after Speedy or is it just result of hyper-inflation which is obviously coming? Or is it combination of both? All in all I’m happy one piece sits in my collection 😉
