Hey, you gotta throw it all against the wall to see what sticks. Sometimes you bomb; sometimes you strike gold. 😜

I live by the sea. I surf and cycle so it was going to be something related to this. The pic was from one very happy morning cycling on an old bike which I rode really slowly enjoying the sun rise. The pic just makes me smile.

Just after joining the Forum I ran across a thread with a post by Dennis strongly "suggesting" that the noobs most recently joined had better create their own avatar before someone like him did it for them. Having no imagination but wishing for something representing my home state I selected a photo from a on a recent weekend jaunt and so that is how the Battleship Texas occupies the avatar spot in this post.

I think the Texas is the same class as my dad's ship, the New York, which served in Crossroads at Bikini Atol in '46 and eventually sunk as a target ship in '48. I hope to visit the Texas some day.

The Texas is in the same class as the New York was. Did your dad serve on the New York during World War II?

My dad served briefly on the USS Pennsylvania, another pre-World War I battleship built to different specifications and having two additional 14-inch guns than the New York class battleships.

Dad served on the New York pre-WWII, discharged in November '41 due to an injury. Somewhere in my basement are his papers, signed by (or at least a stamped signature of) Chester Nimitz.

We have a form of digital communication here in NJ, usually used while driving - the single digit hand gesture, or more commonly known in other areas as "The Finger" or "Flipping the Bird". 😜

I've received that mode as well!

So you drive your car till it stops running?

Service it, my friend, before it shows wear, not after!.
Plan on it lasting for your Grandson, not for you.
