Incoming Sea-Dweller 16600 and the story behind it

In the early nineties, my father bought himself a 16600 Sea-Dweller.
Before, he worked as a saturation diver (but never owned one in those days), but a couple of years later the Sea-Dweller was there! He wore this watch every day ever since, you never saw him without it.

The last couple of years he had his eye on a Deepsea, but as you all know, acquiring it was harder than anticipated.
Last summer holidays, we visited a Rolex AD and asked again whether a Deepsea was available. Of course not... but to my big surprise the gentlemen offered to order one! I thought this was some kind of bluff, but one week later he got a call, he could collect his Deepsea 👍

I didn't go with him to the AD at that time, when he got back to the appartment he showed off his Deepsea. No trace of the Sea-Dweller anymore. I asked, "where is the Sea-Dweller", he told me the AD offered to take it over... I wished he kept it for himself! 😒

An hour or two later he showed up with a present... guess what, I found this:

Needless to say I was super happy! 😁

Back home, I asked whether he still had the box, the box was soon re-united with the watch. However, the original papers, anchor, outer box, ... where missing. What a pitty!

Weeks later I asked to look for the papers again... to my surprise we recovered everything

How cool is that?

I will never forget that day and this watch will stay with me forever 👍

The tritium indexes on the dial have some patina in reality, doesn't realy show on the pictures (lot of sunlight on the watch)

Amazing story and what a great full set! I love watches with a proper sentimental back story to them, I love the idea of handing one of my watches on one day!

Great story!
Much better than “I went on Chrono24 and...”

But your case is in much better condition 😉 Mine got a 28 year beating 😁 It spend a lot of time on construction sites!

that's 28 years of patina & love--it's aged wonderfully!
