rusted parts have been cleaned, and I pulled out the tin lap for that rotor wheel screw because it was bothering me too much...

when I was polishing the crystal I was pleasantly surprised to find it was an original, but less pleasantly surprised to find fine circular scratches on the inside surface... luckily this is a white(now off white) dial so they dont stand out too much, so I will leave this be.

now all back together oiled and assembled
just waiting on a strap for it now.

Two almost Identical 342 bumper automatic movements made from left over parts.

No hairsprings, so no chance of them running. One also has no barrel arbor or hour wheel.

Does sacrifice the 30 10 RA wheel train I had, and the 28 10 RA wheel train @ErichKeane gave me.

I had a number of choices in my job jar today. But I chose to service some pocket watches. I had a call a day or two ago, from a guy who wants to buy one of the two pocket watches I’d shown him several weeks ago. He’s coming next Wednesday to make his choice. I said l’d service them both. Not big ticket items, but I really should be down-sizing.

The first is a Hamilton 992B:

The watch
In pieces
In the ultrasonic in L & R Extra Fine cleaner, two rinses in L & R #3 rinse, heat dry in an L & R crentrifugal machine.
Finished

The second one is an Elgin grade 571 B W Raymond

The watch.
In pieces
In the ultrasonic
The movement

That’s a stunning movement!

One of these buggers today…
If that is what I think it is, you’ve more fortitude than I have!

Looks like an ETA 2892-2. For those of us not in the know, what's the deal with it?

That is a Speedmaster reduced on a D & D chronograph module I suspect. The chronograph module is what would give many the frights!

probably in part due to the popularity of the speedmaster reduced in Japan we did the Dubois Depraz module in school. I must admit I thought it would be worse given the reputation is seems to have at least in the English speaking world, but it didn't seem that bad to me.
For what its worth it does not have the same reputation in Japan at least...
The fun bit was because it was a practice movement we got ours mounted on a 2824 with Dubois Depraz on the rotor, which was a bit of a rarity.

Thats cool! I would love one of those rotors... Remember to accidentally drop some of those hard to get spare parts in your pocket😇

In the second photo there is a “hole” at ~ 7:00 in the plate. What goes in there?

The D & D module is often fitted to an ETA 2892 movement that has the DATE. The date numeral is visible through that aperture in the module.

Oh woah, that is awful! That seems like it would look terrible on a watch.

I’ve only ever seen one of these with the date. It was on a Breitling. The date definitely did look odd.
