In terms of modern pieces, number 1 on my wish list is a new Submariner but only if Rolex refreshes it this year, hopefully with thinner lugs and updated movement. I would not mind going grey if the watch ticks all the boxes. Number 2 is a new Speedy, maybe a sapphire sandwich. In terms of vintage pieces, I'll keep an open mind! What's on YOUR list? Edit: I realized this should be in "General discussion". Can it be moved?
Just realized my dream and purchased a Datejust 41 ref 126334, blue dial with a white gold bezel and jubilee bracelet. Starting 2020 the right way! As soon as the watch arrives I'll post some pictures.
I'm saving up for an Omega 300M, likely the black dial version. If I somehow lucked into a bunch of money, I think I've fallen in love with the Speedy Tuesday Ultraman. Maybe that will be on my 2021 wishlist.
Can honestly say I have nothing on my wish list for 2020, there is nothing out there that beckons. Maybe something will pop up that I'm not aware of, but right now I'm in a good place.
So these are just a few of the watches OD like to add, besides a lot of vintage and classic watches, like the Jaeger Reverso, Heuer Monaco, Cartier Tank, etc. Maybe this one: or if I’d like to go crazy the 1655: And if I’d really go crazy the van der Klaauw Planetarium, preferably the “old” model: Or maybe just a “classic” daily beater: Or a very different heavyweight, though it is huge on my smaller wrist... But probably am ending up with something completely different...
I have about 3 wants but no needs. This may be a year I don't buy anything new (or new to me) My dads talking about retiring, so maybe if I do make a purchase, it will be something for him. If not and I feel like burning some cash, and selling off 2 of my quartz omegas, I could be tempted into a birth year Submariner
On Saturday the wife and I are heading to the OB to pick up a new Speedy ... my first major addition to the collection since 2015. She got a new De Ville last year, so the wait is almost over.
A nice vintage Railmaster, but those are hard to find. I know that A. Lange Sohne will be in my future at some point, maybe this year?
I’m the Conservative type, so I’m going for a Rolex 5513, hopefully with a nice creamy patina. I will stay away from the newer watches since I’m expecting a World recession within the next couple of years. When/if it comes I believe the prices on watches will go down
The JLC tribute duoface reverso. And maybe a fun tool/dive watch like the Helson shark diver in 38mm brushed titanium.
Like many on the OF, I think we are all waiting for the big announcements for next year (yes, there will be a new Snoopy). At the start of 2020 the only watches on my radar are lower risk / lower price point options such as the Hamilton Khaki Pioneer W10 reissue and the new 2019 Cartier Santos-Dumont i.e. the new historically inspired Santos-dumont with a quartz movement. The crown is a bit OTT, but (as a lefty) wearing this watch on my right wrist, it would disappear quite easily under a shirt cuff. Photo below from Watchonista ....other options include a possible pre-owned Railmaster 60th LE purchase. Still have not seen a BB58 live, so that is still a possible candidate. Just saw the Hamilton W10 yesterday at the duty-free in Rome, photo taken next to my Explorer for benchmarking I struck off the Longines Heritage Military from my list after seeing the watch live for the first time. The spotted fauxtina was actually very subtle live and not an issue for me, I just found the watch dial a bit too large for a heritage inspired piece.
Actually considering this too! How does the W10’s dial look in the metal? Is the grainy texture subtle or obvious?
If I can achieve some business goals in 2020 I am going to reward myself with either: Reasonable business goal: Rolex Day/Date Zenith El Primero VERY Lofty business goal: AP Royal Oak Patek Aquanaut 5167A I probably wouldn't be able to find either of the last two watches anyways!!
Yup, that Tribute Duoface is a real stunner! Also compared to the Classic Duoface... I’d know what I’d choose!
The texture works well and is not exaggerated, sufficient to give the dial some character. I was pleasantly surprised. It certainly stood out from the other Hamilton khaki field watches on display. The smaller cushion case and textured dial add another layer of design complexity to the standard Hamilton khaki field watch.
Whichever option you choose, I think you will make an excellent choice. Based on personal experience with my Reverso, I think you will find yourself flipping over the watch face day and night, or at any time of day...just for the fun of it
Depends on your wrist size, I guess. The tribute doesn’t come under 47mm, I think, but the classic has a medium that’s around 43mm.
