WTF!?! This was done on purpose? I would have thought that the watch and the owner were involved in a massive car accident. ::facepalm1:: Great restoration job though.

Looks like you got a £5,420 Speedmaster for about £3,300, about a 40% discount. A pretty good score requiring a moderate level of effort on your part. And you have a watch with a story. I'm never surprised at what humans will/can do, at least it appears that no children or animals were injured in this project.

£1300 later it’s back all restored 😀
Looks awesome.

What was the reaction at the service centre? I bet they got a good laugh when they first saw that monstrosity.

I just don't understand what could possibly justify taking shots of such a watch on the top of a Seiko cloth

What exactly is wrong with Seiko? Or am I missing some sort of humour or irony?

We need more info! Did Omega do it all or did you source some of the required parts and DIY? We’re they aghast at its condition? Did you explain the story to them so they didn’t think there was something wrong with you?

Did you get the movement serviced? God knows what the idiot did to it.

I have absolutely no understanding of why someone did this, unless as some people mentioned before, it got severely damaged. If they really wanted the vintage lume look, I’m pretty sure they would only have had to go back to to the mid to late 90’s before they made the switch away from tritium-based lume.

Turned out much better than expected based on where it started from.

That was of course just a humorous comment.

Obviously the reason for astonishment was the extreme condition of the Speedy and it's incorrect parts after not even a single year of life. On top of that there was the Seiko cloth... which is of course also not "correct".

Don't take me seriously.. And I love Seiko divers...

The watch I was wearing a while ago. Cheers.

All parts sourced from contacts I have and put together by my watch repairer the movement was fine no work needed case needs a polish but no point if its been worn

also sourced a bracelet for it locally

I spotted this one floating around too and wondered what on earth had possessed someone to do this.

Or more perhaps, what had possessed someone to do this to a nearly new £5k plus watch.

Just seemed and incredibly weird thing to do.

Is the case ok @bags1971 or is it worth asking them to replace everything but the movement and just return it to as new?

Money and brains sometimes go hand in hand; sometimes not.

Wow! Great that you tried it and worked out well. And would have loved to see the thought process that the previous owner followed, from purchase till deciding to sell..😀
