What will happen to the SKX013?

A 013 was the first mechanical watch I bought after researching the market, etc. and bought it due to the smaller size. I sold it here a couple of years ago after realising that it wasn't for me. The proportions are just wrong somehow. Too stocky when looking at height/diameter and with an oddly proportioned bezel in relation to the dial. Loads of better options in that size range, IMO.
Agree.
Wonder how they’d work on a very small wrist, probably ok.
I have one NIB I’ve been thinking about giving away on the forum soon.

What does NIB stand for?

I keep debating the Certina PH200 reissue. It at 42mm I’m a bit leery of the size. Have you tried that watch @ConElPueblo ?

..and I know you have a real one, just curious about the reissue compered to the original

Far too big, sadly 🙁

I so wished that it would be a smash hit as I di have more than a but sympathy for the marque, but the size makes it awkward.

So close...

That’s unfortunate to hear. I have a Marathon GSAR and Helson Skin Diver and both clock in at 41mm and although among the largest of my watches, they appear smaller due to the balance of the prominent bezel to smaller crystal. I was hoping the new PH200 would be the same. Their thickness however is another story- don’t try wearing long sleeves with them.

Another question: would you go for a Vostok Amphibia or a Loreo Diver? They're the same price, and both have decent reviews. My feeling is that the Loreo is the better built watch but loses points for being an homage. Vostok is more unique I think, but with less quality.
I would always take a Vostok because of the history. If you buy a Vostok, the old ones from the 80s have a much better built quality than the modern ones. The movement is really easy to service for any watchmaker.👍

On a kind of related topic, could someone recommend a place to buy SKX013 bezel inserts? I'm specifically looking for a green one to get a Kermit inspired aesthetic, possibly with coffee lume as a second mod.

I had the same experience with the 013, was to thick for its diameter and felt not comfortable to wear. I ended up giving it to a friend.
For a replacement I also bought the Oris 65 in 40mm and it is a pleasure to have on the wrist. My go to wearer for the last 7 months.

The oris 65 36mm is on my list, but they rarely come up in the used market. Would love one on a factory bracelet- event harder to find
The lug width on the 36mm is only 16mm, so not a large choice of strap options available in that size.

Is that coffee lume or actual patina'd lume?

I have a 6 3/8’ wrist, and amongst all of my watches I think the SKX013 fits best size wise. Absolutely love it! I wear it when I’m at home playing with my 8-months old, ready to take any hit from any of his toys!

Vostok’s quality has gone down, but they are very original watches which maintain their legacy by you basically buying a brand new vintage cheap divers watch. It lacks most of the features you might expect in 2019 such as quickset date, mineral/sapphire crystal, high power reserve, good lume, a clicking unidirectional bezel, and such. For the price nothing gives you more. The jump from a 60s Hong Kong made cheap divers watch to the Vostok today is not far.

So as most of you will know, the Seiko SKX007, SKX009 and the SKX013 have been discontinued in favour of the new Seiko 5 Sports models with the reference number SRPD.

As these new models don't have a 38mm variant (an SKX013 replacement), what will happen to the SKX013 market?
Will they shoot up in price and become collectable, or are there more than enough around to satisfy the market for the next few years?

I would love to here your thoughts below, as I'm considering buying one and just leaving it new in the box for some years as an investment, and to see how the market develops.

Back to the question from Aug 2019 where new Seiko 5s launched 40mm only and the SKX confirmed discontinued; it’s now Sept 2020.

I bought my mint SKX013 Jan 2019 with, aligned chapter ring, box papers, rubber and jubilee bracket for $165 USD (really $220 CAD).

I think that was unusually well prices at the time so let’s place it at average $185 USD... seems like on average market there is appreciation, but still well priced on eBay auctions.

Current prices for similar aligned chapter ring, bracelet,

Long Island Watches = $358 USD

Watch Patrol only found 1 match at $400 usd.

eBay = $499 USD

But eBay bidding July 2020 from reputable looking seller = $132 USD

Could you suggest some alternatives for the ones who think the regular SKX is too large for them?
I had a skx007 but sold it when I bought a Rolex sub.
I missed the skx007 and wanted another but decided to go with a skx013 just for fun, and I love it a lot more than the 007

somehow feels and looks better in my opinion

I have a SKX 009 as a beater, an 007 from one of the last months of production new in box. And my GF got a 013 last year as a present... All are going up in price esp the 013.

I had a quick look for an SKX009 a month or so ago and was shocked at how much the prices had gone up since I bought my 007 in 2018.

what was the actual end date of production?
