Reviving this old thread.
I just purchased the Black Lacquer Santos Dumont (wssa0046) that was announced at W&W in 2022.
I've read that Cartier had some difficulties producing these watches and that's why there has been quite a delay. Not sure if that had anything to do with the lacquered cases or something else completely.
I believe Cartier has only really started to deliver these watches from April until now. The limited edition models in rose gold and platinum didn't have this huge delay and were sold out last year.
On to the watch... This is a watch I purchased without seeing it in person. I was really unsure if I would like it, expecting I would either hate it or love it. Fortunately, I really really like it.
It's very bold, uniquely Cartier, and there are few other watches I would compare this too.
I was worried it would be too big (31.4 x 43.5), but it's really not. I like smaller watches and this fits perfectly.
The lacquer looks really cool and well done. My only concern is how it will hold up over time. I'm curious whether or not Cartier will be able to refinish this case (and do so for a reasonable price).
The dial is weird and wonderful, like a black hole that will suck you in.
The watch originally comes on a black alligator strap that integrates into the case. I personally don't like and prefer the look of a standard strap.
Here are some pictures I also posted in the WRUW thread.
