This is just for fun, feel free to participate or dont, i have already made my decision in this case, i just wanted to know how you will react in my shoes.

Imagine you already got these 3 watches :

    1. Rolex Explorer II (16570)
    DEC40C87-CC8D-40E1-9726-93F30F0BAE0C.jpeg

    2. Omega Speedmaster Teutonic (ST3450803)
    3032A098-68F7-4DBC-9FEC-BF12FC5F18AE.jpeg

    3. Seiko Alpinist (SARB017)
    54DDA45C-5777-4EBB-BC80-C4142D9B51A4.jpeg

Now for some reasons (forums, hodinkee, instagram, youtube, etc) you feel that you needed to add a dresswatch : a JLC Reverso Classic Medium Small seconds to the collections.

But on the same time you cant take your mind off from some of the beautiful sports watches that are being offer to you. (See the list below)
Your available budget is only USD 5,666.

What will you choose? You can sell some of the collections from the list above or not, it is up to you.

In this case the options are :
    1. Speedy Tuesday 1 (Preowned) USD 6,333
    879D22E2-228D-401D-B3FA-F993143A6C47.jpeg
    2. Sea Dweller 16600 (Preowned) USD 7,333
    6ABC5DDC-DB08-4546-95D6-A0ED37D33BBE.jpeg
    3. Bvlgari Octo Finissimo (Brand new greymarket) USD 8,066
    D846C06A-B6D2-4E1B-9A72-C0B787CE3180.jpeg

    4. Jlc Reverso (Brand new) USD 5,333 (discount)
    2FF0FC5D-EEDE-47E3-A5F7-2A408C45E96C.jpeg

    Or

    5. Your own choices of watch (within the budget)
    3603786B-5352-4630-B9DA-AF28F9B72666.jpeg

So what are you going to decide?? Be yourself and be creative.

Notes: All the prices in the potential options are real prices that are being offered to me.

Hold up... I don't know if you've been listening but many OF members think the ST1 is a scam...

Me personally I would save up!

This is the only pic i have from the seller, ive heard you and the others for warning me and im thankful.

But i have a theory on why the price is low. In my home country, Indonesia, i dont think Omega is appreciated enough, its hard to sell one here unlike some other countries.
For example on of my watch dealer have this ST Ultraman and havent been able to sell it for a year at USD7,666.

But yes i will ask for more pics from the seller and post it here so i can get proper help judging the watch, that is if i ever decided to buy this watch.

    If it's not a scam, I would say ST1.
But I hope personally you are buying because you love it and not to upload_2019-7-7_0-43-26.png

(extremely touchy issue over here, keep in mind)

If you are looking specifically for a dress watch then I would go with the Reverso from what you have suggested. But, there are plenty of good dress watches out there that don't need to cost a lot unless you wear one on a regular basis, for me I would pick a good Longines dress watch and then put the money saved towards your next big purchase.

For me, the question is how often you would wear a dress watch. If it is very often, say several times a week, then definitely get the Reverso. If it’s rarely, then you have to ask how often you would wear it with casual clothes. If not much, then I’d get a sports watch that might be versatile to go with a sports jacket if needed, then buy a vintage gold watch for the dress one.

Based on the watches you have, I’d suggest a used 36mm Explorer 1, or new Aqua Terra or Oyster Perpetual over the sports watch choices you list. If you want a diver, the new Seamaster Professional isn’t a bad choice either.

The Reverso is the only choice listed that I would consider a true dress watch. Although I’d happily rock that in jeans. Still, given those choices, answer is Reverso.

That is why my choice for a dresswatch is reverso as for me i think it can also go well with polo shirt and jeans. Because originally reverso was made for sports but because of its looks and dimension people use it as a dresswatch.

But hey i like that 36mm explorer1, might have to consider it, btw what sports watch will you choose in that situation?

throwing in a wild card, might be in ur price range at a grey market dealer or used I'm not sure i have not looked into the used market.

I feel like this watch would look dressy on a nice leather strap, and kinda sporty on the bracelet. I don't own this watch but this, or something similar to it is one I would love to add to my collection eventually.

That’s a tough question I’m currently struggling with. I’ve narrowed it to a used Explorer 114720 or a new OP in 36mm with the 3-6-9 dial. Both are about the same price. I’m leaning toward the new OP because of the updatef bracelet, lume on the Arabics, and full warranty, but want to try one on first. No AD near me has one in stock, though, and I don’t want to give them money to order one sight unseen and wait who knows how long.

Found it with that price in the preowned shop near my area. And i’ve compare with chrono24 and there really is not much of a differences. Assuming that chrono24 price is the price that sellers ask not the one they get.

Of the watches you listed I agree the Reverso is the only one that is a true dress watch, however if if it’s no going to be worn frequently the a Rolex OP or Omega AT may be a better choice.

I think the idea that a “dress watch” is needed is total malarkey. It’s 2019 and you don’t have to own any particular style. Because you have a long list of Sports watches as alternatives to the one “dress watch you feel you should have, I say go for the best additional Sports watch you can buy.

For me it would be the SD 16600 all day every day!
