What watch do you get complimented on the most?

As far as actual compliments go, I've only had a few people notice and comment on:

Otherwise, it's only family, friends, and my staff stating "You got another watch??!!"
Great pic!

Strangely, this one. But noticed by ladies! And it is a pocket watch that I exhibit, usually several days per year at an exhibit of pocket watches that two of us do. I call this an "opera" watch which is a 20s vintage, 0 (zero) size, 15 jewel Elgin in a 14-karat white gold, diamond set case. I suppose this question might better be answered by those who regularly meet with other watch collectors, a rare breed indeed, where I live. I suppose if I was to wear a cheap, fashionable, trendy quartz piece of junk, my watch might get noticed. But I don't need to have a watch that gets noticed, in order to enjoy wearing it. Another one that gets noticed (again, by ladies) is also an Elgin which is 115 years old. Ladies love the pink dial. It's a family watch, so that's why I keep it. Terrible file photo, I know.

Mainly the Daytona, the one I've had the most hate on is the A386 El Primero which Trev can't stand and my sister in law said looked "a bit cheap and tacky". But I guess that's because it's kind of colourful and due to her not having seen the Netaff era Zeniths to compare too.

Next after the Daytona was the Gemini 4 LE, a lot of people noticed and liked that.
You can send your "cheap and tacky" watch to me. I promise I will keep the cheapness and tackiness as original as possible

I still need to get the ladder bracelet for it and grow a moustache so I can look full 70s in it, the strap actually tones it down and prevents people from admiring my thick mane of wrist hair through the holes.

Cause it's so freaking large. It's hard not to notice.

Once received a comment on my Ed White. They had no clue, but noticed it was an Omega.

I live in an area where people notice when you buy drinks.

For some reason I have never received a compliment on any of the watches I wear.
I think it's a good thing...😉

My Chinese cheapo gets way more compliments than anything else I own.

I have a fan club at work that waits with baited breath every time I wear a military watch. They love to hear the history of each.

I have such a good eye/taste selecting my watches, that no matter which one is on my wrist, it always gets compliments! 😜

A couple of years ago I was out for lunch with some friends of the wife. Sat next to a slightly eccentric violinist (the friends were all from the city orchestra) who I hadn't met before. Completely out of the blue he asked me if I used to be in the army, specifically the special forces. Bit strange I thought, me being more skinny/nerdy than well-built/macho. He said he thought my watch was only used by serious military types and spies, as he had seen it in the last film he watched. I told him the Suunto Core was pretty common, and not only worn by Denzel Washington types 😵‍💫 That's really the only time someone I didn't know mentioned a watch.

Thanks! I'm really grooving on it...it's my first stainless steel pocket watch (I've wanted one for quite a while)...AND...I have the original BOX! 👍

Now that's what I call a proper watch box... Not that polished lower half of a tree that O. it's trying to unload on us.

Well, my Ploprof nets me the most likes on watch boards, but the watch depicted below it is currently the only one I own that was noticed (and commented favorably on) in the real world by a non-WIS...

Based on this admittedly small-sample study, I tentatively conclude that there's either no correlation with price, or an inverse one.

The one watch that I once owned was one I made it a point to wear when I went to watch collector conventions in the U S Pacific north west. I recall one event when, on a Saturday morning, in the venue hotel coffee shop, I had finished breakfast, and I had my left arm resting atop the back rest of our booth, this watch showing prominently. A guy at a table probably 60 to 80 feet away, came over, pointed to my watch, sad asked me if it was what he thought it was! Coulda sold it right there! Over the years at these conventions, I can't count the number of deals I might have made on it. Including a swap for a brand new modern 18-karat version on a croc strap, plus $2000.00 U S! This particular dealer had forgotten that, 15 years prior, he told me how the market had plummeted, and I'd be smart to let him take it off my hands for $5,000.00! Can't stand the anticipation? Here it is! By the way, I finally did sell it!

Only once, an Italian lady who complimented my seamaster 200 'banana' Friends often like my watches, until they ask what they cost, then they look at me like I am the biggest asshat on the planet.(the most expensive one I own is the SM 300 master co axial, small fry compared to a lot of watches.)
