Hello Omegoids, I recently got married and , for the second time in my life, signed the dotted line yesterday for a house purchase. On both occasions as I looked into my treasure boxes I instinctively pulled the same watch out. It's not my most valueable, nor my most dressy.. but it does appear to be the watch I seem to treasure above all (even though the shiny hands can make it a little tricky to read) and I really love my JLC's. I've only even seen one other online with this grey sunburst dial design..even then I'm not sure if it's the same one: What about you guys? What is your watch for seminal occasions? Cue 50's speedys and Pateks........
Before I started collecting watches (circa 2016), this never left my wrist and was present at my college graduation, US Navy winging, all my combat missions, carrier landings, test hops, wedding, birth of 2 kids, death of 2 parents, you name it, I always wore my G-Shock. It was the only watch I owned. It is still the one I wear 99% of the time. But, I would have to say if I have a special occasion in the future, I will probably wear my Speedy on leather.
For me personally it is just as much about the dress code as the occasion Smart casual - I will wear probably a divers watch Lounge suit - maybe my constellation pie pan 168.004 Formal DJ, tails etc - then most probably my 18k polerouter deluxe
Easy answer for me: A well used and abused 166.010 my mother gave to my father as a Christmas gift back in 1968. Their first christmas as a married couple. Two years before I was born. I remember this piece on my father's wrist during my childhood and its there in all the pictures as well. Caseback was engraved back then (initials and date) almost invisible now. BoR bracelet was damaged, end link lost and glass cracked back in the 90s, dad replaced it with a quartz Citizen and stored in a drawer for years. I had it restored few years ago. After restoration I never hesitate on what to wear for family events. And I'm exited because I just found a BoR in very good condition and it's heading my way from across the pond . regards!
