I purchased this Speedmaster professional 145.022 upon receiving my first ever bonus in private practice. That was after months of research (here, the Fratello buyers guide, speedmaster 101), and like some Christmas miracle one popped up right in between Christmas and New Years. The buyer (a musician who was saving up for something bigger) happened to live about an hour's drive from me, so I went over to inspect the watch. When handling it in his apartment I chickened out, as I'd never spend so much money on a watch before. So I passed on it, drove back home, only to have seconds thoughts again. Called the guy up, drove back again, and bough it there and then. Still happy I drove back, best purchase I ever made.

My wife bought me this for Xmas many years ago, and I still wear it on occasion. Though when I do it feels like it’s made out of aluminium foil compared to the heft of my Speedy

The Spectre Seamaster. I ended up replacing it in a trade with a brand new Speedmaster. Which I enjoyed for a bit until I had discovered vintage.

First was a Speedmaster 145.022-69 with the 220 bezel which I totally lucked into. There's no way I could see ever parting with it. However, it needs a new mainspring so it's not in my rotation.

I bought this one around ten years ago. I’m ashamed to say I’m not even sure of the model or year. I should really move it on as it never gets wrist time 🙁

A Seamaster 2531. I'm still a big fan of this watch, and will argue the merits of its bracelet, design, look when worn with other straps, and also how damn tough it has been.

A Seamaster 2264.50 in 1998. It is a classic grab and go watch. Over the years it has become a vacation watch, a beater, a reliable tool, and the one watch that will never leave my collection. I just had the gaskets replaced and it is good for another 20 years! In my opinion the sword hands are so much nicer than the skeleton hands!

Just just a light hearted thread, what was your first ever omega, how did you come to buy it, and do you still have it?

Here's my entry:

My first omega was a Speedmaster Reduced reference 3510.50.00 with haselite. I bought it used with all the fixings from the original owner back around 2003. I knew next to nothing about the modern omega lineup back then, and had been shopping for something vintage, but this one came up at a great price and I snapped it up. I think I paid around $800 canadian dollars back then, and it was only a couple years old.

I liked the watch and wore it in a rotation, which back then, was mostly vintage accutron 214 watches. I used to have a thing for coffin link accutron astronauts. Today, I don't even own an accutron anymore, but I have quite a few omega watches. Interestingly, when I see a reduced now, I only see "not a moonwatch", but back then I thought it was great, a moonwatch I didn't need to think about winding.

After about 5 years, the reduced became part of a trade for a 2008 2254.50 seamaster that I also no longer have, it was later replaced in the lineup by a coaxial gmt seamaster.

So what's your story?
My first one was a Reduced as well ( I still have it). Next up was a Moonwatch. I followed them with a couple of Bretilings and then back to a couple of Omegas

My first one was this crappy 166.002, but I didn't keep it for long. I was totally clueless at the time.

After that, still clueless, I lucked into a nice 30mm hand-winder that is still in my possession.

View attachment 888354 About 30 years ago, an elderly friend of Mrs. C indicated he had two watches that he wanted to re-home. We visited him, and he showed me two Omega watches that he wanted to give me! One was an 18-karat yellow gold dress model which I was not interested in, even though the price was right. The other was the one shown herein. I refused the karat gold one, and told him he should keep it for a day when a family member showed interest in it. The one in the picture, I told him I was interested in, if I could pay him for it. He was adamant, that he wanted me to have it. So I had a piece of jewellery repaired for him in exchange. This one has shown on the MB before, in the thread on “Worst Re-dials”. I believe this was my first Omega.

Gold filled case model # 2946-3SC, movement calibre 283, movement S# 13061070. I think that places it at about 1952, so close to 70 years old.
