What was your first Omega watch?

Just just a light hearted thread, what was your first ever omega, how did you come to buy it, and do you still have it?

Here's my entry:

My first omega was a Speedmaster Reduced reference 3510.50.00 with haselite. I bought it used with all the fixings from the original owner back around 2003. I knew next to nothing about the modern omega lineup back then, and had been shopping for something vintage, but this one came up at a great price and I snapped it up. I think I paid around $800 canadian dollars back then, and it was only a couple years old.

I liked the watch and wore it in a rotation, which back then, was mostly vintage accutron 214 watches. I used to have a thing for coffin link accutron astronauts. Today, I don't even own an accutron anymore, but I have quite a few omega watches. Interestingly, when I see a reduced now, I only see "not a moonwatch", but back then I thought it was great, a moonwatch I didn't need to think about winding.

After about 5 years, the reduced became part of a trade for a 2008 2254.50 seamaster that I also no longer have, it was later replaced in the lineup by a coaxial gmt seamaster.

So what's your story?

My Triple Date, bought new from an AD in the Summer of 2008, which I still have and in fact I am wearing right now. As my 40th birthday approached my wife said “you should get a nice watch” - I knew nothing about mechanicals back then, including Omega. So, we went to a Tourneau and looked at pretty much every brand you can think of. Nothing was really doing it for me and we were literally walking out the door when something finally caught my eye. It turned out to be the Omega Speedmaster triple date, which became my daily watch for the next decade (until I bought my DSOTM). I still love it just as much and wear it at least a couple of times a week.

I got my Constellation in April 1999 in NYC from an AD for about $1200, had it serviced at an OB in 2013 and still have it. Love that it still looks good after 20 years 😁

My first OMEGA watch was this Seamaster I inherited by my grandfather when he passed away.

A Seamaster 168.024. I bought it because I’ve always wanted a 1601 Datejust but just couldn’t justify the astronomical prices people are asking for it these days. Got it, still have it, and I’ve never looked back!

I bought a 2254 Seamaster, a 2007 model, in 2008 for £895. It was a choice between that, a Moonwatch at £1600 or a no date Sub at £3,500 - those were the days! I had a small inheritance & the Sub would have cleaned me out. That & the fact that I preferred the look of the 2254 sealed it. Ten years later I bought the Moonwatch as well - it had doubled in price by then!

This Seamaster De Ville. Passed onto me years ago when we were back home in the UK. Still love it and wear it, though the stiff hand winding seems to argue for a service pretty soon. Set me on the Seamaster journey, still ongoing though presently on pause while I look Speedy-wards.

This 14707, this year ... I very much like Omega's 1950s - 1960s dress watches.

A Seamaster 2627 "date at 6". Bought at a flea market with my girlfriend. After she divorced me, I couldn't stand to wear it any more, and I got rid of it.

When I was married, I worked extra hours and used the proceeds to buy a Speedmaster 57 Replica. Wore that one for two decades and traded it to my watchmaker for service. Since I bought that one new, I considered it my first "real" Omega instead of worn-out flea market junk.

About 4 yrs ago I was out walking with a friend when he showed me his vintage Constellation. I remember being totally captivated by his watch and from that moment knew I had to get one.
I had no clue about Franken watches, redials, polished cases or even Omega Forums for that matter.
So armed with very little knowledge and much stupidity off I went to eBay.
Here’s the result.

Complete beginners luck I guess!

My first Omega is a Mk40 I've had since the 90s. It's been serviced a couple times and the last time it got a replacement case, so now it bears a new serial number. Good thing it isn't a collectible watch because it would certainly seem like a Frankenwatch.

Bought my Constellation quartz around 1990 for $800 to celebrate a promotion, still running well - 1-2 second fast/day 😀

Not much wrist time these days so an old pic:

Still have box and manual:

A ladies Constellation 568.0001 for Christmas in college. That year, my father decided that he would get my mom and I ladies C-case Connies to match his. My mom got a two tone one on a bracelet and I got a steel and white gold one since I don't wear yellow gold
