What to look for in a Seamaster 300M 165.024?

I have only been part of the OF 'family' for a short-while, but have had the opportunity to learn a great deal from members with knowledge and experience that a newbie can only dream of (especially when starting out in vintage watches - watches fullstop actually - a little later in life...)

I'm hoping for some guidance on what specifically to look for in judging merits of the 165.024 reference. Watches that appear very similar can have values that vary by 5 to as much as 10 times. Any pointers to blogs, reference sources, etc would be much appreciated.

With thanks,
Martin

When you say 'no dot' - you mean in the inner caseback stamping?
That bracelet is something else!

Yes, and thank you. It was a custom made Olongopo bracelet popular with the US servicemen in SE Asia. The symbol stands for US Diver 1st Class, more pix of mine if you search the Forum.

One thing I've learned in the last couple of months is that almost as much thought goes into matching the strap/bracelet as the watch head itself! I imagine there's a whole other specialty in bracelets such as yours...

300. Minefield. Watch out there and ask before you buy.

With all the minutia collectors obsess over, and rightly so, the strap/bracelet is 1/2 the presentation and very important.

Yes indeed... hence trying to build some knowledge and understanding of what to look for - at least to discount the obvious redials, frankens, etc. Who best to ask as hesitant about 'What do you think of this'-type post...

Thanks to all so far - anyone with an experienced eye willing to look at a watch if I find one that looks good to me? @Shabbaz ?

I know just a bit. There are far more knowledgeable members here. Just make a thread about a potential purchase and people will help. They've helped me as well. Good luck!

Just to close off this thread - thanks very much to those responding to this post directly and @Dan S and @M'Bob who helped with their observations. I've now closed a transaction on a 165.024 listed here on OF by @ndgal - who has been a great seller (and I'll post appropriate feedback once the watch makes it way to me here in NZ). But I'm sure it's ok to post a pic in anticipation...
