What happened to new Seamasters 300m?

I do like it and am still thinking about it, what's holding me back is that it has no quick set time zone function which I find useful.
I do agree

The size increase is too large for me. A 38-39mm version would be perfect for me, similar in size to my 8800 PO. Besides that, it's my favorite Seamaster pro.

I am quite drawn to the no date, black, Ceramic and Titanium version on rubber. Might be a preowned pickup though as list is a bit of a stretch!
100% agree. I don't really like the new 300Ms except for this one. I tried it on a couple of weeks ago, and it's awesome.

If I could afford it, I think I'd own at least one from each version of the SMP. I have the original 1120 in blue with skeleton hands, so I'm on my way. 👍 From the current line, I'm drawn to this ceramic one too, and from what I can gather from the fuzzy photos of the Bond 25 SMP, it might be a winner for me as well (looks to also be no date).

Seamaster 300m was my first watch and the 41mm diameter, thickness and bracelet was perfect for me, its just the right size and i thought Omega nailed this for everyday person, i would wear it with suite or just casual and it blends in well - that resulted in very good price too for what you get £2631.50. If its appeal didn't fit someone's taste i.e. sportiness, larger size then you could go for Planet Ocean model range, you would also pay more money of course.

The new revision watch, when i put it next to my watch on the counter, the size is noticeable, however incremental they are so for me the dress watch appeal has been lost. I appreciate the new tech and i like these things but so the price has increased? When we were buying my watch, myself and my wife had to split the payment on our cards as single whole transaction would take up our monthly salary, this was already beyond budget of £2k - we wanted nice keeper watch for me but yet realising that the financial limits but realised that extra £500-600 was worth for this brands and the watch design.

The different colours, they way that i see this is an attempt to appeal to more audience, many watch brands been doing it so now its time for Omega? They kept it previously very minimum (black and blue), leading with its ever popular Seamaster in just that format, very distinct!

Desperate - maybe not the polite word but represents struggle within watch industry.

Beyond my original post, maybe they should invest in smart watch tech, they going to have to do something in future! Its not sacrilege, its just up keeping with the times 😀 and this is not to push out existing models but to bring something new to the table get new audience in and if customer wants pure mechanical watch then this is also available from range of Omega models spanning for multiple decades

Personally, I love the new one - esp on rubber, as I am not a fan of the SM bracelet. Yes, it’s a little bigger but actually I think the size works, albeit I do take the point it’s maybe lost some of its versatility as a result.

It’s an awful lot of bang for the buck IMO.

After owning the 2531, still owning my beloved 2254, and having the older smpc in black, I can honestly say that after purchasing the new wave dial in blue last December, it blows away the older smpc in every aspect. Better movement, I hated the plain dial, nicer bracelet with adjustable clasp, better wrist presence. I could go on and on. After owning it for 6 months, I felt like my older smpc looked more outdated than my 2254, so off it went. Still a nice piece, but IMO, there’s no comparison. And it’s actually only .5 mm larger in diameter than the outgoing model.

I too think the SMPc was a low point. The loss of the wave dials and gloss finish weren't winners for me at all. The black date wheel on the blue dial model was criminally bad design. To answer the rather mangled original question, 'What happened to new Seamasters 300m?', in my opinion it got better.

as this is open forum for watch enthusiasts, there is no conclusive wrong or right answer to this as everyone views are different, i just expressed mine and provided some further information on my original post.

You expressed views too but i would not call them mangled that's for sure.

You made great post and received likes - that is an achievement tick i guess, have a great evening!

I love my black SMPc--it's also the watch I have received the most compliments on. That said, I do wish they had kept the wave motif on the dial...

A blue Seamaster with wave dial is on my wish list. The only thing I can't decide is whether a smaller, preowned model or the newer coax. It may depend on what kind of deal the OB at Saigon Centre is offering next month. I may duck into the Hanoi OB, my first stop in country, but I don't really want to carry it around in the box for 2 weeks. Hmm... there's also the ADs in Terminals 1 & 2 in Taipei...

I never liked this.watch until the new 300m. Call me kray but it is the truth
Me neither. Previous iterations never resonated with me but when I saw the current version I was blown away.

And in answer to the OP it got better... much better.

I think it is interesting to see that small, incremental changes which I find to be detracting to the design has won over a large number of collectors who didn't like it before! A good example of the Omega way of keep on introducing new models and features rather than playing the long term game like other more conservative brands 😀

Yeah, I was just thinking about how everyone was all up in arms about the new helium escape valve, interrupted minute track, increased thickness, loss of the hippocampus, etc. etc. when the new Seamaster first came out. I definitely had the impression that the SMPc was going to remain the more popular watch. Now, apparently, the SMPc represents the "low point" of the modern Seamaster. 😕

I only wish it was released with the initial 3. I purchased the grey dial, and love it....but I would be all over that.
Plus every thread deserves a picture.

I can safely say that I absolutely and intensely dislike the new Seamaster 300M. The new waves, the size, the date window, the weird colours have totally ruined a pretty cool watch. I have tried it on a couple of times and I honestly think Omega has lost it with this. Really sorry that modern Omega is getting less and less interesting with every release (almost) as I would very much like to still get excited about the watch brand that sparked my interest in watches. So I am happily waiting for my Rolex white passing on the Omegas.

Of the watches in the new Seamaster lineup, this is only one I really, really like.
