Something like either of these would work. Very unlikely anyone would remove your arm just above the wrist with a machete, if you wore one like either of these. 😀

Excellent travel watch. Tough, waterproof, not expensive, doesn't look like much. I also use Seiko SKX 007 and Tudor Black Bay

These are usually my “go to” watches when travelling. So I rotate and use mine a lot, usually bring a few with me per trip.

I usually go with the Blue Lagoon Samurai. The colours just make me think of sunshine and holiday

Citizen Satellite Wave. Adjusts the time with a GPS receiver. 👍

The last time I traveled overseas (Amsterdam) I enjoyed these:

For going out in the evening (concerts, etc):

And for the rest of the time (the GMT bezel was very useful):

Time to stink up the joint...I wear a 1990's Polar heart rate monitor. It has a loud alarm, is easy to change the time, and it's not something I worry about. I kept it after the chest strap (for the heart rate) went kaput, just for the times I needed a watch that I didn't worry about at all.

Funny , I wore this on a business trip a few weeks ago, and when I saw a guy wearing a newer Polar watch, I had to start talking about watches and fitness with him.

OP, New Westminster guy here. Be careful and don't take a Submariner (AKA the most recognizable watch the Planet).

I carry a beater for the sketchy locals, other than that rock what you want. South America and Africa are a different kettle of fish.

Funny, I read for the first time "a different kettle of fish" yesterday in a column by Rex Murphy (a journalist from Newfoundland).

For a versatile Go-Anywhere-Do-Anything (GADA) watch, that's inexpensive and quite durable, I rather like my Alpinist.

The camels appear somewhat indifferent though...😗

Two weeks swimming in Greece with a Seiko 7002--loved it:

Eventually I hope to graduate to a 300 or Ploprof....
