Water leak issues with PO600

I woud be interested to learn what seal actually failed. Main seal or a chrono pusher seal?
My speedmaster 3570.50 had water ingress the first time I wore it in the rain! Yep, pretty disappointed, and that is not a dive watch, so I empathise with the OP. Omega got back to me on that one which was less than 6 months old. A "chrono pusher seal had been incorrectly installed."
Personally I'd swim with any of my dive watches, heck, I'd even take them into the shower with my wife, though I do not buy Chrono dive watches, for (to me) obvious reasons.

Draft from omega website.
Also stated in the manual I think.

"SWIMMING IN THE SEA
Always rinse your watch with warm tap water afterwards. Please note: we recommend that you have the water resistance of your watch checked once a year by an OMEGA authorised service centre."

My old 42mm PO leaked at the HE valve. I shoved it in a box of dry rice until I got home from holiday and with a quick service the only thing it ruined was the lume in the dial. That looked OK and then just started to fall out.

I've seen leaks at all locations, but by far the most common place is the crown.

......, heck, I'd even take them into the shower with my wife, ..... .

At high risk of condensation happening. 😀

I've read this in various places over time. Curious, why wouldn't you wear it in the shower? I shower with any watch that I've used for sport so I can get all the nasty sweat off. This ranges from my cheap, nasty free promotional watches to my Citizen's and even my Omega X-33. The only time I've had issues is when the glass fell out from my freebie watch and I didn't realise before jumping into the shower.

Could this have accelerated the wear to an extent? There isn't a need to "crush" a gasket for it to be effective, likely the opposite. You want it tight enough for a good seal but really wrenching it might increase the wear? Just comparing to the gaskets in taps, they suffer increased wear if you wrench the tap closed every time versus just enough to stop the water.

I never understood the desire to shower with a watch on. It’s easier to clean a watch in the sink, where you can get all the gunk off and use a soft toothbrush to get all the hard to reach areas that a shower wouldn’t cover. Also, i prefer to scrub the part of my wrist the watch covers when I am in the shower. And also of course the shampoo and soap that your watch is subjected to in the shower. What gives? I’m not critiquing you I just don’t see the benefits of showering with a watch, especially given the risk.

Pretty pathetic from omega, sorry to hear op. You'll hear a lot of bullshit about gaskets and pressure tests from people here.

The bottom line is that your watch underperformed. A good reminder that you've bought a logo and some text when a 200 dollar seiko does the job better. Maybe enjoy the PO chrono at times when you won't see rain, snow, wash your hands, or when it's humid outside.

Obviously, somebody who subscribes to the belief that there is such a thing as a waterproof watch.

I agree, it did under perform.
I've had a pre bond 200m, a bond blue wave 300m and now a 3 month old black wave 300m. You'll see my previous post about the questioning of its water resistancy. Well I can tell you that today it also has been in a steam room, juccuzi and pool and all is good!

Absolutely. I have owned PO which leaked too. Do not bring it closer than 600 m to the water.
Aqua Terra is more water resistant.

This has also had many wet spa treatments!

Laziness? Because I can? 😀

I usually start with the watch on, then remove it part way and sit it on the side to dry before I put it back on. Sure, a toothbrush in a sink is more thorough but it's a bit more effort than I could be bothered with. A watch that's rigorous enough to wear for sport should be able to withstand a shower. These are my "tool" watches and if they're too precious to handle that then they get bumped out of that category for me.

I don't mind the critique, it won't change how I treat my tool watches.

Fair enough. But I will say this. Even if I had a watch approved for 10,000 Meters depth rating, I’m still taking it off and running it under the sink for 5-10 seconds and then leaving it off while I shower. Shower is for cleaning the body not testing the mettle of my tool watch in my opinion!
Same logic as to why I don’t bring my waterproof iPhone into the shower.

For many years my Omega X-33 G2 went into the shower 2-3 times per week and never leaked. Fortunate perhaps?

These days, well before lockdown and social distancing put a hold on indoor sports it's usually one of my Citizen Eco-Drives. They're cheap enough that I never get then pressure tested and if they ever do leak (none in 25+ years of owning various ones) then I'll just replace them. The cost of regularly pressure testing them would drastically out weight their replacement cost over their lifespan.

If my daily was a diver or something on a metal bracelet or silicon strap I would happily wear it in any kind of wet environment but get it tested every 1-2 years. I tend to wear leather straps these days for looks and comfort so try to keep them dryer. The laziness factor is satisfied by having them all on deployant clasps.

Ok risk aside, even if you had unfailable super gaskets that never needed to be tested. For the sake of hygiene, take the watch off Bugbait! Give it a sink rinse and give the watch a little time to miss you. I’m dying on this hill today, my apologies to the forum.

It's okay! Sport (watch on) --> Shower (watch starts on, then finishes off) --> Wrist area gets a clean --> Watch sits on table after to dry while I strap one of the dailies back on 👍. I do wear a watch to bed though, always have and current helps when the baby wakes at various times of the night.
