I live in Texas. Thanks!

well Texas is still a pretty wide area, but if you are near Austin, Russel Korman’s jewelry used to have an Omega certified watchmaker. It’s been 15 years since I lived there and used him, but he fixed up an old Speedmaster of mine.

Thanks! Any alternate recommendations for the North Texas area -- Dallas and Fort Worth?

Omega specs for the 550/560 series require that the average daily rate, measured over 3 positions, falls between 0 and +18 seconds per day, with a target rate of +9 seconds per day. They are of course, with the right attention, capable of much better than this.

There's no difference in the parts used between the COSC and normal versions of the 550/560 series watches. The only difference is the amount of attention paid when they were adjusted.

Thanks Archer! With the right attention, are they capable of modern day COSC accuracy levels?

Yes. At least most of the time.

Omega will not sell YOU anything. Just Watches....
That is incorrect, they just won't sell you any service parts directly.

That's what he said. They will sell you nothing. Except watches. And later someone added bracelets, buckles, bands, etc.

Well he's simply incorrect. Omega stores/boutiques will sell you many things other than watches.
I get the sense that this guy gets off on being dogmatic and provocative, maybe he should aim more for his navel than his mouth.

Can you provide a categorized list of everything that Omega will actually sell you? Without that, I feel like you're just creating this conflict where none exists. The reply was in response to the question if Omega would sell service parts to you. The reply is accurate regarding that.

I think my original response was unambiguous ' That is incorrect, they just won't sell you any service parts directly.'

What's a reasonable price for a complete service (full disassembly) with new mainspring for the Watchco 300 552?

The list of what they won’t sell you is much longer than what they will. I think you are being a little pedantic. Service parts might suggest movement parts but in fact the sale of virtually everything except bracelets and straps is now off the agenda. Not so long ago you could buy bezels, dials, full cases even but no longer. That is how Watchcos came about and partly perhaps why it was changed.

Please read what Archer said on first page, he is completely right, I can confirm from my experience.
Omega AD will sell you anything related to bracelets and strap. You can for example order all parts to re-pin/tube bracelets, order end links etc.
But they WONT sell anything related to watch head or movement.
Simple as that, no need to create any assumptions.

btw: the transmission-ratio when winding the automatic-watch by hand is IMHO high, so it is always recommended, to wind slowly. This is my knowledge.

To the best of my knowledge, Omega never sold cases, bezels, dials, movement parts, etc. directly to end users - consumers. I'm sure the odd order slipped through the cracks and somebody was able to order a bezel or something, but typically the only way you could buy these parts of the watch head was to buy them from a third party supplier (Otto Frei, Cousins, etc.). It was that supplier that bought them from Omega, and resold them (at a mark-up usually) to you the end consumer.

That all ended in 2015, when all the third party suppliers were cut off. They were able to sell the stock they had remaining, but after that they were not able to order these parts from Omega.

This is why many watchmakers whine and say "I was cut off by Omega" which is completely false. They never bought anything from Omega, they bought it from third parties, just like end consumers did.

The sales of watch accessories, such as straps, bracelets, buckles, etc. has never changed - end consumers could always buy those from Omega, and still can.

Hope this helps clarify things...

It's really going to depend on what parts it requires. Parts for this movement are not cheap, so although someone can throw out a total as has been done, that lower 200 pound number could be exceeded pretty easily just in parts...

I would expect a trade price of circa £150 and retail £250 - £300 (non-omega) Simon Freese is about £295 for example.
Hope that helps 😉

I would be interested to know what parts specifically...
