Want to Mod my Omega dial, please help!

Hi,

I recently bought a 34mm Aqua Terra (in picture), and i would like to replace the sailboat shaped hour markers with traditional triangular shaped hour markers (in the 38mm+ ATs).

Any idea where I could get this done?

p.s. I'm based in the UK.

Buy another watch. Seriously, what you want to do is not practical or economical.

Would be better off asking for Omega to custom make one.

Send it to me. I’ve done this same exact mod to this exact Omega twice before. To make it a little more challenging, I reshaped the case and dial from round to square.

That additional case mod service is $5 extra

here is the before:

@Chai86 , Don’t believe him! I don’t think he can do it! (Or, maybe he can!)

I literally just need the hour markers removed from the two little pegs that hold each one in, and replaced with a new set. Ideally set in the same dial holes the original pegs went in, or carefully glued.

I would have thought there would be loads of mod services out there. All i'm finding at the moment are Seiko mods galore (not knocking them, i love my seikos

The reason the service probably doesn’t exist is that most people are probably not comfortable with the idea that it would ruin the integrity in their watch and quite probably it’s value too…

Would be better off asking for Omega to custom make one.

This is probably the most sensible route.

Yes, potentially something that could void th warranty too. So i might give it a stab in a few years once that expires. With the rise of the Instagram genration and wanting to customise their watches, i'm sure there are some bespoke services out there that could do something as straightforward as this. I've seen some of the major ones completely overhaul Rolex's, but i'm certain the cost would be astronomical.

Not gonna give up on this thats for sure

Watches of the quality of Omega have index markers that have “pegs” on the back of the markers that fit into tiny holes drilled in the dial. Suppose pegs on the underside of the markers you want to use don’t match the holes in the dial? What then?

“Not gonna give up on this, that’s for sure”. When you finish the modding, show us the result! Do your really think Omega will supply you with the alternate dial markers you wish to use? 😁

I'm well aware of how applied markers manifest on a dial. See my comment further up the thread. I've seen markers readily available that can easily be stuck on, pegless.

Your best bet is to talk to some dial refinishing companies. They regularly remove applied markers from dials in order to perform the stripping and refinishing of the dial. They may have markers on hand, or possibly may ask you to supply the dial with the markers you want put on the watch.

It's not impossible to do at all, but will likely involved whoever does it waiving all responsibility of it doesn't go well.

I think you're on the right track, great idea. Dial restoration companies, one would imagine, would have the necessary skills.

I've had markers added to a dial that didn't have the previously by a dial refinishing company, so I know this can be done. Some don't have a lot of imagination, so you can ignore those folks...

I agree that it’s your watch and you do can as you like with it. If modifying is what you want to do, then go for it. It all comes down to how much money you want to invest into the project and weighing the risks of it not coming out as you had hoped (potential damage to the dial). Sourcing a second dial and having that modified to your liking may be the safest bet as if it fails, you can just stick with the original.

A number of interesting things come to mind. The great design minds in Omega have used curves everywhere on the left and straight lines on the right.

OP proposes to mix those two design cues. Might work, but I think not.

I would doubt the dial furniture holes line up, so some customization there.

All in all, nothing money cant fix. Though I doubt it can be done successfully for less than the cost of exchanging the watch, one for the other.

I have seen some Rolex modified and yes prices were.... astronomical! I do not like Rolex watches, except the vintage ones, but astonishingly, very rich people like them, and love them even more when they are ... modified. Afew months ago, I saw a chinese man bought one in less than 5 minutes. He also bought a few from others luxious brands for the ladies accompanying him, wife and children I would say. I guess he spent at the very least 100 000 $ within half an hour. That's life!
