1980 Citizen bullhead chronograph ref 67-9356. Also called Mickey Mouse or Challenge Timer.
Vertical clutch high beat column-wheel flyback chronograph.
The chronograph actions are very smooth, better than any other column-wheel chronograph (Omega cal 32x, El Primero) I have had.

ON THE OCEAN FLOOR 2-3 years ???

1977 CITIZEN 52-0110 Challenge Diver 150M
The Diver Watch that DEFIED the Pacific

  • Neil Blakers of Cromer found this awesome watch while “strolling along the beach on Saturday afternoon” on Long Reef Beach in Australia. “I realized it was a watch but the face and body were covered in barnacles. It looked as though it had once been growing on a rock or at the bottom of the ocean and been thrown up by a heavy surf” he said. He treated the found object with lemon and grapefruit juice only to clearly notice that the watch was still ticking. In the pictures below the seconds hand is in a different position so the watch is for sure still alive. That was great news indeed! Neil understood the importance of his find and took the watch to Citizen Watches Australia at Brookvale who forwarded it to the Tokyo Head Office where they determined at the Product Quality Section of their Tanashi Factory that the watch was made in 1977. Based on my knowledge about vintage Citizen divers it is safe to declare that the exact model number is 52-0110, type 1 dial variant. The watch was found in 1983 but it is unclear for how long it stayed submerged into the salty waters of the Pacific Ocean. Some researchers think that based on the way it looks we can assume it was “diving” for maybe 2-3 years.

THE VINTAGE DIVERS COMPANION
If it is not a Bestfit Swiss Tropic ... " IT IS NOT A TROPIC strap "

BEST FIT Swiss Tropic MOD DEP dive watch band 1960s/70s

Labeled "TROPIC”and marked “SWISS MADE”and were usually fitted with an“INOX” ("inox" from French "inoxydable") or “ACIER” (steel) signed buckle. "MOD DEP"stands for "Modèle Déposé" which did say that the design was registered and protected. The reference no. was also visible on one end. They are made from a very pliable rubber for a comfortable wear. A "dry out" process often led to broken straps.

Since 01.16.2012 Tropic is a registered trademark for Synchron Uhren Manufaktur GmbH, Mauerbachstrasse 40,1140 Vienna, AT (Isofrane, Aquadive, Barhyscape).

" It’s very telling of the high quality of these straps, that many of the brands officially retailed Tropic straps as approved options for customers. In today’s context, changing your strap is a common activity for almost all watch collectors. Its rare or even unheard of now for brands to offer such third-party accessories. Rolex were selling Tropic straps through their official outlets as recently as the late 1990s for $19.99, you could take your Submariner into a Rolex Service Centre and have your watch put on a black Tropic strap and placed in a green suede Rolex service pouch. Blancpain also officially offered the Tropic as a strap option for the Fifty Fathoms and The French National Navy, the Marine Nationale (MN), also fitted the Tudor Submariners that they issued to their divers. your long lost cousin Gruen has returned wrapped in that new fangled Stainless Steel just invented.....

With of the era shark strap and buckle.

I know they are not antiques, because by definition they’d need to be over 100 years old, but true vintage is at least 50 years...
