Vintage Omega Reproduction Straps

Omega contracted years ago for a type of strap impossible to find today.

Examples:

I have a couple of original examples that can be inspected. They came in a wide variety of colors, if vintage ads are to be believed... including red and green, but that was a Christmas ad, so might be a flight of fancy.

I have a beige version and a light grey version. Tan might be nice, and of course a darker brown (cognac?). Not sure they ever came in black?

They appeared to have been stitched first and spray-dyed after. My examples, the thread is clearly coated.

I'd definitely get a couple, I kave three watches that might have come on these types of straps, and mutiple colors might be nice. I suggest that we save money and hassle by sourcing our own buckles according to individual taste. The buckle in the lower pic can certainly be sourced cheaply on eBay.

What say, forum mates? Enough of us, we can get together a minimum order from a "major" strap-maker in various lengths, perhaps?

I would like to talk about it....

My only concern is accommodating International at 18mm and US and early International at 11/16ths.

I'd like a couple of these, but it depends on the pricing of course. The maximum I'd be willing to spend is probably $100-200.

My mental target is $100 and I have a maker in mind but there might be others I don't know, because we are an international community.

I've noticed in searches of old images of watch advertising that several makers used these straps with rolled edges, a style which I think gives a very nice finished look to a watch.

I found a couple of reproductions in tan and black on Ebay some years back. Wish I'd bought more of them. I'd be interesting in outfitting more watches here with this type strap.

@SkunkPrince If these look good to you I can connect you with my friend who makes them. Very reasonable for the quality. PM me.

Pig skin or boar would be a nice authentic choice.

The old straps are a bit thick for my taste, these are thinner...

That is very cool. I'd have loved to talk to your grandfather.

I've been aboard the Texas quite a few times since 1960 when I was three and ran my head into something while touring it with my parents. I remember wailing about it while standing on deck, but don't remember what it was. Somewhere in my parents' "colored slides" are photos of me perched on one of the main guns.

I've also been on the battleships North Carolina and the Alabama. I like to tour warships whenever possible.

Since I was born and raised in Wisconsin, Norfolk is on the list for "some day". 😁

Did he make those for you? I really like the second one, nearly placed an order even though I don’t quite know for which watch 😁
However the rounded edge is a bit of a challenge...

Here is a strap I bought on eBay not knowing it was so deterioated that it's basically garbage (except for the buckle!).

Rman will help me get a repro of this for one of my watches. I intend it for my CK 2390:

This particular strap seems to have thinner sides than the ones in the advertisement you've posted.

I have one a couple years older, like in the ads. Lots of variation. We'll see what Rman comes up with.

I had in my mind that the folks at Strapped For Time might want to take this on. I'll have to write and ask.
