HI All,
Are Omega Quartz vintages a collectible item? Like a 1978 ST 196.0116 with a 1342 caliber with that really nice textured dial.

Collectible to the right person....

Not Particularly loved as the quartz crisis era is not exactly a high point of Swiss watches.

there are some highly collected quartz watches from Omega. Just google Omega Marine Chronometer. But those are as far away from omega quartz movements of the late 70’s and 80’s as those are 2 cheap quartz Chinese movements.

Thank you - Thank you . I knew the Quartz question would not be really appreciated and kind of understood why with my own research. I just loved the dial and thought of asking the experts. Hopefully not many people are annoyed - cheers

Generally, most people define collectibility of an item in terms of demand for that item. The higher the demand, perhaps, the higher the collectibility. Not much demand for most quartz watches, but especially obsolete ones like the pre-Swatch Omega quartz models. So, not collectible in the eyes of most collectors. Having said that, I have one (which I didn’t buy, as it was given to me).

It’s not that the question is unappreciated. Just not something that people are drawn too. Doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a piece you love from that period.

I think you're on a wild goose chase. Spend some time learning what you like then learn about the watch. Once you've done that, you'll be better equipped to find the right watch.

Perhaps it might help if you explain why you want to know if it is "collectible". That's such a vague term, and means something different to everyone. Why does it matter? If you like it, buy it.

Or are you actually asking something different, maybe about the value of the watch, and whether the value will go up in the future. Is that the real question? If so, let's just speak plainly instead of using euphemisms. It will make the conversation easier.

As others have said, most Omega quartz watches from the late 1970s are not particularly sought after. One problem is maintenance and replacement of parts/movement when problems occur - donor movements are very difficult to find and repairs can therefore be expensive.

However, that’s not to say that those watches can’t be presentable, or give you pleasure to wear - just don’t go into the purchase thinking you’re making an investment. I have one that was gifted to me and I actually really enjoy wearing it in rotation with my vintage mechanical watches.

if the price is right and you like it, go ahead. But beware that it might not last for years in a way that a late 1960s mechanical might.

My 1977 cal 1342 Seamaster (196.0116 too) bids you greetings:

I have this one in my collection and I bought it due to its interesting dial shade, outstanding condition and original bracelet. It came in at under €375 which I find exceptional value for money when considering its wearability.

Is it the most sought after or collectable Omega? No it isn't, but I do think that a vintage watch shouldn't be sniffed at purely because it's quartz. I enjoy wearing this quartz just as much as other mechanical watches that I own which are valued at many multiples of this one.

Absolutely - and that is one cool watch! Wear her in good health.
