Vintage Longines 14k gold from the 1940s: Your opinion on the dial?

Hello everyone,

I need your help. I bought a Longines from a user in another forum, he had already sold me 2 or 3 IWCs which were all great.

I don't know anything about Longines, I just liked the watch. The diameter without the crown is 35mm. The seller assured me that the watch is completely original. I trust him because of my good experiences with him.

Now it has arrived and I have doubts as to whether the dial is original. The Longines lettering seems ok to me in comparison with other watches from the 40s. But I'm not sure about the numerals. Can you help me with this?

The serial numbers on the movement and the inner and outer covers match. I have not opened it but he took photos.

Please find attached some pictures.

Many thanks, Andreas

Not even close to original Longines quality dial.

Just to start:
red arrows: should not be vertical brushing in the sub dial but a clear circular groove. The right arrow shows what's left of the original groove.
red circle: smudge
blue arrows: uneven spacing
blue circle: sunken subdial should have a sharper edge. This one is sanded down.

Others can chime in.

Here's a picture of my 1940's Longines. The dial has aged but I think it's orginal.

Thank you very much for your feedback, I was afraid it would happen, but hoped otherwise, as is sometimes the case... 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'll talk to the seller now and ask him to take the watch back.

Have a nice weekend, Andreas 🥳
