Vintage car/ watch pairings

We have threads on vintage cars, and on vintage watches, but how about both together.
I was talking privately with @TheGreekPhysique about 80’s two-tone Rolexes and vintage whale tail Porsches (both being big flex pieces of the era) and it dawned on me that I do tend to grab my 14060 when I have driven my ‘93 BMW in recent days as it just seems so poetically appropriate for the era. I have no intention of wearing braided belts, leather mesh sandals, or getting a mullet, but I do consciously pair my watch to the period of that car.

Anyone else?

The early 90's lawyer starter-pack right there lol
Just need the light tan wide lapel Armani suit with shoulder pads (think David Byrne) and a Hugo Boss cornflower blue floral tie…with the leather mesh sandals and mullet…..we have to laugh, otherwise we would cry.

What about pairing the watch with the gauges? British cars and Smiths, Italian cars and Jaeger/JLC, etc. I thought that I had read somewhere that VDO was loosely associated with some German watchmakers as well?

Just a couple of thoughts...

I don’t own any old cars but the first car I ever owned was an eagle talon in red. I wish I would have kept it. Nothing special but man was it a fun little car to drive.

Only watch I own from that era is a speedmaster but I reckon that would pair just fine ?

One and half more....
The NSX was not a Giugiaro design, but it kinda looks like it is.

I suppose one more watch could be associated here with the connection that Senna had in the design of the car and also being part of the Honda F1 team at the time.

Watch and car for the same era uh ?

sorry for my previous post, obviously off topic, the type 20 was issued in 54… even though it was decommissioned in 82

as a 2nd entrance, Fiat 500 still, which, according to the papers dates from april 1st 1969 and my 145.022-68 from march 20th 1969. This is the closest match I have

please disregard the ersatz in the background pretending to be a real chocolate cookie

I think your first post was perfect! There is definitely overlap with the Cinque Cento (1957-76) and your Type 20!

Yep, at some point VDO owned both IWC and JLC.

You sir are a man of refined taste. Pic of what you had in mind?
If we are doing period pairings for your old Talon, I would think any Eclipse Evo owner of the time would of happily owned this

I think little factoids like this are fascinating and speak to a time when manufacturers were well diversified for their contracts.
I own a Herschede hall clock and when the depression hit, they shifted to making parking meters to stay alive- and it actually became their bread and butter (still a clockworks). Linhof, one of my favorite camera makers has been manufacturing fine machine parts for Siemens for decades- they still make some of the worlds best view camera, but they ain’t staying alive doing that.
