Apart from Speedies and a Seiko SKX007 this unsung treasure is my only all black dial. Assembled in Leicester UK from all Swiss ingredients, I wore this Services watch all through Secondary School and, yes, it came fitted with a brass crown from new. I believe we had a severe silver crown shortage in 1971 Leicestershire.
Hard to find, seldom sought, quite possibly worthless but 'tis black.

'Close', as in 'close, but no cigar'?

Hehe, exactly. 😀 That being said, I’d happily trade your location for mine right now. It’s a beautiful piece of tarmac!

Too much time on my hands at the moment so yesterday I pulled out the macro camera for a quick shoot. Here a 14381 Constellation and a 2849 Seamaster. They are both from around 1960 and clearly showing the period design ethos carrying through the various Omega lines with gold baton markers, dauphine hands and gloss black dials. A very nice combination IMO.

And here with a couple of their friends from the early 50's. These are a 2652 Connie and a 2577 Seamaster. Both of these showing the earlier marker design and textured dials.

I feel like this is somewhat from the Sublime to the Ridiculous, but here's my latest: a humble Dugena Watertrip skin diver from late 60s/early 70s:
