That is a fair point but I think the dial is original (and these hands were used on other Contaxes as well)

not sure about this one, it looks like a franken to me, to be honest.

first of all: why radium dial and no lume hands? It's a red flag for me.

Exactly

I doubt it's a franken.. it confirms this thread here : https://omegaforums.net/threads/ug-contax-serial-number.120278/

I think possibly hands were replaced or swapped but not a big deal to me. It's a beauty for sure.

Also possible lume was added later and hands original. I bought it so if /when it arrives I'll provide better forensics..
I agree with @jumpingsecond .
If the movement is correct then I have no reason to think it’s “franken”. Definitely central chrono hand is a replacement and so is the crown. But the h+m hands might be original, regardless of the lume plots. (At least they look like correct 1930s UG hands, even if maybe they were not mounted on that dial in the factory...)
I think the lume plots are original.
To be honest, I have always thought that my Contax (the one from that thread cited) had its caseback replaced because all other Contaxes I have ever found were 607xxx or higher, but it would be a little strange to have two Contaxes with cal 285 with case backs swapped both to a 587xxx serial.

Congratulations on the acquisition. It's definitely a dream watch! I think the hands is the best part 😍

I don't know who else has spotted this one (I've had one of these for a while but couldn't resist to helping myself to a few more).

Seems to have plenty of stock. Just beware that the text and logo will wear off pretty quickly if you intend to actually travel with them.

I bought one of these. Fun part of the historical paraphernalia collecting.

Do you think these are genuine vintage? I had assumed these are contemporary made.

I'll give you an opinion when mine land. The dimensions and photo appear to correlate to one I already have.

Is there variation in the shape of the moonphase aperture according to age of a model? Seems a bit wide in some places, and there is a funky pattern of wear around it.

Has anyone seen a moonphase aperture like this before? link

I know one other but no pics (link is dead)

Tanknumber suggests 185 so probably 200 produced.

BTW intruiging thing of the one above is that the movement is matching but is not marked 287 (which is seen more often around these serials)
