The joy of secs.
You know there is a whole sub genre of pornographic watch dials. Every so often one of the watch blogs goes there..

If you need the dial to remind you, you really are in trouble.

I'm definitely no expert and am learning but besides what Mazoue mentioned, it's missing minute marks 12-14 and the vertical cross line cutting through the M in Automatic looks off to me. Both the horizontal and the vertical cross lines look overly defined, as do the minute marks in general (they should be more faded I think). Please correct me if the information I'm posting is inaccurate.

Hi all, I'm new to the forum. So I came across this Polerouter on eBay. To my amateur eye, it seems like the word Polerouter seems touched up and the case has been polished.

I'd like to learn from the experts here how to tell if a Polerouter is legit please

Based on those photographs, I think the dial is correct and original.

The case is not perfect but I wouldn't say it has been overly polished.

A decent example I would say.

I see... If I may ask, what are the common areas to look out for?

I'm guessing this is indeed a rare watch, but it still seems a bit ludicrous given the asking price - the seller looks like they used a rutabaga to take pictures -there isn't one clear shot of the front of the watch. And they are asking $85,000! Ok, I get that it is single owner, but unless the guy played drums there is no way that the bezel got that much damage in only 6 months of wearing it ::facepalm1::

In addition to some brass balls to ask that price, the guy鈥檚 also got some abrasive wrists to have worn off serial and reference numbers in just 6 months...

That story sounds familiar. Single owner, took off the bracelet and lost links etc Has it been on there before?

No idea. First time I've seen it myself. I just can't stand the stuff like "Oh I only wore it for six months". And then what? You stored it in your rock tumbler? I get that recollections of the late 60s are probably hazy, but there is no need for that kind of embellishment when the pictures paint a very different picture. It makes the whole thing stink of BS.
