Interestingly, this early Tri-Compax ad appears to show a fair bit of space between the outer chapter and the case ring...

Alot of that perceived space has to do with the crystal that's installed. Hi dome vs low dome vs glass.

I have a 37mm 287 that I just got the crystal swapped out. The guy that did it for me specifically cut down a pocket watch case crystal (glass) to fit my bezel so that the outer chapter ring could be seen clearly. The previous high-sided high dome crystal that was installed (not original) obscured most of the outer chapter.

Problem is that if you were to install a typical low dome acrylic crystal, you'd see the outer chapter fine, but might not have enough clearance for the hands which sit up pretty high on the Tri-compaxes. So your watchmaker would install a generic high dome crystal for clearance and end up obscuring some of the outer chapter.

Interesting watch here. Is this miss-label by seller? I would assume that all tri-compaxes were actually labeled "Tri-Compax".

I really like this style of hand, but they seem to be fairly rare. In fact, in my limited experience, I have only seen them on this watch, and the married Tri-Compax I posted a few weeks ago, both of which are cal.287s. Is this indicative of the age of the watch? Did they only come on cal.287s? Any information on this would be greatly appreciated!

I've come to understand the "Tri-Compax" label was applied to all models. If true, this would have to be a redial.

Those hands are, I think, fairly common on the older models. Maybe somebody more experienced can comment.

And upon closer inspection, one can see the hands are clearly mismatched. The red marker should be counting the days of the month.

I also don't see the word "Swiss" at the bottom, though it could be hidden by the warp of the glass.

You are correct about the red hand. Also a dead give away is that the day of the month hand is much too long. I also noticed that one of the pushers is also not a match for the case.

Well, I think the situation is that the month hand needs to be switched with the 12 hour subdial hand. The lengths should then be appropriate, no?

Big, but for freakin' huge I would go with the "Universalone" and it's fraternal twin from Zenith, the Zenittone, both 46 mm.

Actually, looking again at that link, that is a Universalone, and the seller has under-measured it, calling it "about 40 mm."
