I'm still waiting for a response from the folks who chose to pile on. Let me know what you think and how your comments helps to improve the forum. If I'm wrong, I'm open to honest criticism.

My first choice, along with many of you, would be a Speedy Pro. Most likely a modern one if I am going to bank on wearing it forever.

Next would be a Rolex Explorer 114270. A nice middle ground between vintage (1016) and modern (214270) and it keeps the classic 36mm case.

Nomos Orion 35 reference 309. I love this watch, and I think I'm going to request it as an engagement gift in the near future. 😀

I tried on the Orion last week and fell deeply, deeply in love. What a wonderful dress watch!!! That exposed movement is so incredible in the metal.

Which version are you considering? I handled the datum in person and loved almost every aspect, but I'm curious to know if the no-date looks the same via the caseback? I prefer the clean dial of the no-date version.

I should mention that I could be happy forever with your top 3 - you have marvellous taste, sir!

On another note, I don't see why we must be mean to each other and argue passively. Just because a thread like this has been created in the past doesn't mean it can't be renewed in the future. These are fun threads, and perhaps it is interesting to see how a member's preferences have changed since he last posted his favorite watches in a similar thread X number of years ago. It also gives newer members a chance to post pictures of their favorite watches in a new thread. Not everyone wants to post in a thread that's two years old and 78 pages long.

This is literally the "Open Discussion" forum for God's sake. Quit being buttholes to each other, and let's just appreciate the watches that people are posting.

Having been the instigator of threads that lit a stick of dynamite, I have learned my lesson. Some of my threads in the past were destined to head down a dark and argumentative path. This frigg'n thread doesn't need to be one of them. Calling @Jwit to be our voice of reason here. Please refer to his post to remember that we are all friends with a common interest: watches.

@R3D9 I am opting for the no-date, display caseback model. 35mm sounds small to me, but people on the web seem to unanimously agree it wears larger than 35mm due to the wide dial and thin bezel. I haven't seen this model in the flesh, but I have a very strong incline I would fall in love with it.

It's the 38mm version that I tried on recently - I should have clarified that! It's a wonderful size and fits perfectly under the cuff of a dress shirt.

Nomos is doing great things!

Here it is on wrist (datum version) as well as a shot of the movement...

@R3D9 Such a gorgeous dial and really impressive movement finishing for the price. I love the Glashutte ribbing and the tempered screws. 🥰

Oy vey if my friends and family knew you were calling me a voice of reason they would laugh. I'm usually the one that suggest completely irrational things.

But I agree here. Watches + Happy people = fun
Watches + sassy people = not fun.
Simple math.

Now a creepy picture of me face swapping with a watch

Oh human beings....somethings never change. I used to own a gas station many years ago and had to sell it. Reason? Well, people couldn't even pump gas and not get into arguments or fights. Over gas? Really?! So I had it and sold it because I realized that people are at the end of day are really apes. Honest to god truth. So here we are and people are getting angry because someone think someone did a duplicated thread? Again, human beings or dare I say apes....

Right now, with my current collection:

Omega Seamaster 300
Squale 30 ATMOS GMT
Seiko Sarb033

My Seamaster is my grail, the Squale is fun and practical and the Seiko is the perfect dress watch

IMHO

Value-wise, it's hard to imagine a better watch than a Sarb033. In my opinion, it's a downright icon. I owned one and sold it about a year ago and I've regretted it ever since.

How the hell is it being mean to have a bit of fun with a thread that started with

" So with that said... you're 70 years old - you've been collecting and trading all your life - what three watches are sitting on your nightstand? "

Gee,s if most of us don't have our false teeth sitting along side the watches when we are 70 we will be lucky.. 😁

I even posted watches to be in the spirit of the thread.

Three? From each manufacturer? Unless vintage Longines, in which case you might need three examples of each decent movement (which is most of them)? 🤨 is what my wife would claim!
