I'm still waiting for a response from the folks who chose to pile on. Let me know what you think and how your comments helps to improve the forum. If I'm wrong, I'm open to honest criticism.
Gee,s if most of us don't have our false teeth sitting along side the watches when we are 70 we will be lucky.. 😁
@R3D9
I will own up to not being as clever as @oddboy and @STANDY in response to your post. But come on, piling on? I don't think so.
We are all here to learn and share knowledge about watch collecting. Also here to make friends, contribute to the community and have some fun.
Not piling on with my two sets of three.
Umm.. FYI - you're part of the piling on right now.
Did you read the entire thread?
Some of you guys are unbelievable. It's like having a back and forth with Kellyanne Conway... one pivot after another... "oh, you took what I said thaaaaat way??? I didn't mean it that way and you're just overreacting"
A bunch of people in a row, in an unfriendly manner, told me that I'd be better off posting at Watchuseek.
They did it because they were annoyed at my post because it want what they felt like discussing. Instead of moving on to the next thread, they took the time to create some smart posts to let everyone know the things I'm interested in are beneath them.
Now I'll just sit tight any wait for the inevitable insinuation that I'm a special snowflake with thin skin.
Here's the deal - if I was sitting in a bar, at a table, having a conversation about which three watches I'd like to end up with, and some jerk walked up to me and made condescending remarks about what I had to say, my reaction to that person wouldn't be what you'd expect from a special snowflake.
Funny thing about the internet - how people behave in all sorts of brazen ways when there's no opportunity to get slapped.
All good. I'm done here.
Looks like the OP has abandoned ship & the crew are getting drunk 🍿
Apologies everyone. I clearly needed to take a breath and remember not take things so seriously.
My initial stance holds, that just because someone doesn't like the direction/content of a post doesn't mean you need to openly mock the OP.
Based upon my responses in this post, you'd be forgiven if you found it hard to believe, but I'm usually pretty open to polite, one-on-one, contructive feedback.
I realize now this was a stupid post to create and I'll live and learn from it. I just would rather someone had sent a PM instead of taking shots at my expense.
I think if people followed that approach, the forum would be even more welcoming and accessible to new members than it is today, while still maintaining the high level of content.
That said, it's all words and what does it matter anyways? Like @Taddyangle said before I went off on him, we're all just here to share our love of watches and maybe even make a few friends along the way.
@pippy - my thought experiment was unintentionally ageist and I apologize for that. I was projecting out what my collection would look like in thirty years, which happens to land me at the age of 70... I sincerely did not mean to insinuate that one's useful collecting life is over at that point... god, I hope not - I've got a lot of plans...
While some members don't like this type of thread, I enjoy reading them because so many members here have such diverse collections. I especially the pictures, sorry I don't have pictures of my watches, but out of my collection the three would be my Sub, my SM 300Mc and my Explorer.
