Thoughts on Speedmaster 3575.20

So.. I start by saying I don't presently own a Speedmaster of any reference but am hoping to change that in the near future!

I have generally been researching and considering a late 70's/early 80's Speedy Pro as it seems there are still good values to be found there and they still have a nice vintage feel.

Recently a colleague of mine showed me his more modern Moonphase 3575.20 and I have to say I really liked the dial, hands and the extra complication. I can see how it also dresses up a bit or down which might be a plus for me as a work/casual option.

I am wondering what some opinions are on this model and movement. I thoroughly expect that I will end up wanting the more traditional and vintage 145.022 at some point - but would the moonphase be a bad idea for a first Speedmaster?

It's a good watch, and a great addition to any collection. If you can find a decent 3575.20, go for it. You can never have enough speedies.

I may be biased because I have one, but I reckon the 3575.20 is one of the nicest looking watches Omega has made in the last 20 years.
The hands and markers that change colour depending on the light are just beautiful.

Personally, I have no interest in a moon phase and I feel the complication really deviates from the core of what the Speedmaster is. Then again, I have a panda dial on mine so I may be the pot calling the kettle black. Regardless, but watches that make you happy.

My first Speedy was a moonphase, 3576.50 and not for a single second have I ever thought I made the wrong choice. I since have added a few others, but the moonphase to me is the best modern version of the Speedy. I consider it to be a "moon watch" - and as such it is the only one with a date which I really like having.

Thru the years I've owned only 3 😉 I'll probably be looking for 4 before it's all over. I guess you can say I really like them 😀

I love mine. I know it's not the original. But a date is a must and the moonphase is a nice complication

What is a good price range for one w/o papers? I've seen them online from ~$3400 to $5500?

$5500 is a very optimistic asking price for one without papers
I would expect to pay $3500-3800 for a decent example with box and cards.
Maybe a couple of hundred less if the date/moonphase pusher tool is missing.

Seems like a big drop for a tool that costs $23, but the market is strange sometimes like that I guess. Any AD or OB should be able to get one for you if needed.

When you add in the cost of the original faux leather pouch that the pusher comes then maybe 🤦

That one is no longer available, and has been replaced by the plastic/rubber one that doesn't have a faux leather pouch...
