Hi OF'ers,

I am interested in buying an Speedmaster listed on this forum. While I trust the seller's good intention and expertise, I would appreciate a quick double check whether the watch is indeed in the condition that both I and the seller perceive. This post is made in discussion with the seller, so no worries on that end 😉

A quick summary:

145.022-69 Speedmaster, produced in 1971
DON bezel, with some grey fading, rather than the DNN it should have (but the DON should be original)
The hands are a bit brighter, UV picture attached. Perhaps replacements?
Otherwise everything should be original, with an unpolished case.
Overall, a very nice vintage Speedmaster for a decent price in my view, I am curious to hear whether you all agree!

Good price, good watch, good seller.
If you’re not sure about faded bezel you could replace it with correct DNN and sell the DON and lower the overall cost even more!

I think it’s an attractive watch. To me the dial is Good+, possibly very good and the bezel is attractive, but only Fair due to the wear. I’d also say the case etc is Fair-Good so it should be priced between Fair-Good which it is.
The market is very slow at the minute, which is impacting sale volumes and prices everywhere imo.

If it gets any lower I’ll buy it just because the EOA is 3 days from my birthday… 😜

Good watch from a good seller at a fair price IMO

You should secure this watch before someone else grabs it... can't get much better for that price. As you point out, the hands being possible service replacements are the only real flag, but the watch is priced accordingly. The bezel has some cool character I think but you could always replace it with a correct DNN bezel if you wanted a cleaner looking watch.

I'd be surprised if the hands weren't replacements, but they are better looking than chipped and rusted ones.

The dial is very nice and something you'd likely love gazing at many times per day. It's so clean, it's super nice.

The case is pretty nice, and excellent at that price.

As far as the bezel goes, I've had a couple with bezels like that and honestly, I really liked them. As long as it doesn't look falsely aged (and this one doesn't), a faded bezel like this is kindof like worn through paint on an old car or truck. It just fits and looks cool.

For the price i think this is a good watch !
Personally i would change the bezel to one in condition to match better with the dial - which is lovely - DNN or DO90.

I agree with everyone else here that the price is right and it looks great. I'd keep the faded bezel as that gives the piece really unique charm.

Thanks for the feedback everybody; ended up buying the watch and couldn't be happier!
If this is your first Speedmaster, be warned of the First Speedy Syndrome which affects nearly 100% of new owners. The Syndrome is characterized by at least 4 of the following symptoms:

1. Wearing watch to bed the first night
2. Buying multiple straps and bracelets (up to 10 within the first month has been reported)
3. Spending more hours each day on Speedmaster101.com than on IG
4. Eyeing the rest of your watch collection thinking how many you need to sell to fund the next Speedy, which may be 321
5. Spamming WRUW with all the new straps and bracelets
6. Wearing short sleeve shirts in all seasons

The only known cure is passage of time, but the syndrome will likely relapse upon purchase of next one....
Enjoy the watch!!!!
