Thoughts on first Seamaster

That said, if you got that watch cheap and sent it to omega, they would replace the bezel, offer you a new production dial and hands and service the movement. Not cheap, so factor that in.

Wrong bracelet but the watch head looks authentic to me. It's an early one pre-2007 without the trademark laser etched omega globe and depending on age might be grey market as it lacks a lug serial number.

It should be on a speedmaster-styled bracelet. That bracelet looks odd to me, maybe faked or o e polished, hard to tell from blurry pics, but for $1800 you can do better imho.

Thank you once again. Looking around it appears the 930/1610 combo is correct for this model if I am reading it right, and this has 825 end-links.
I’m slowly picking it up, really appreciate the help OF!

2254. I have the new smp, the gloss dial smp, orange hand AT, 2254, and 2531. 2254 gets the most wrist time besides my submariner.

This model did actually come from the factory with the Bond bracelet. It was known as the 2054.50 but is rarer than The 2254 and seen more in the USA than Europe. It is more likely the bracelet was swapped but it could be original in that configuration. I can see a serial on the lugs so the point about grey market isn’t necessarily correct. I would want to look closer at the caseback it seems to have a patch of what could be corrosion or maybe just dirt.

...Any red flags Inc price?...

The pip is the lume dot at 12:00. Note it should be a flat disk of lume, with I think a disk of glass on top on the one you show above it is a dome presumably of solid lume. That isn't right and has either been relume or much more likely the whole insert is fake/repro. Inserts are available on Ebay for £20 but none of these are genuine as Omega do not supply a separate insert, just the full bezel.

As Padders state, check that the bezel inlay is the correct one, as they are costly to replace. Also, fake bracelets are out there, though I don't recall seeing a whole lot of them.

Since you are looking for advice on how to gauge the condition of these, I'll recommend that you carefully examine the scalloped bezel when evaluate a SMP. When polished it will instantly lose the sharp edges, making it look very soft. When overpolished it will also make it even more difficult to turn than usual. Have a look at @KeithS' example to see how it should be...

Thank you.
I think I see what you mean, is this an example of “soft” polished edges?

Based on that picture, it would be acceptable to me 😀

Now I just need to find a 2254.50 in good shape at a reasonable price! Thanks to everyone that replied for your advice and comments.

I now see the serial number on the first watch on my laptop, guess I missed that on my phone. Basically you need to decide if you are OK with the bond bracelet. IMHO, a 2254.50 should have the speedy-type 930-1610 bracelet, but YMMV. If you DO pursue that watch, ask for clearer pics of the external and internal bracelet markings. Fake bracelets are readily available nd it being a bond bracelet on a 2254 watch head makes the bracelet being fake a real possibility.

So I pulled the trigger yesterday on a 2254.50. Confident I overpaid somewhere between a little and a lot depending on how you value real Omega straps. But, first one and didn’t want to play the “is it real” game in the hunt for a bargain. As I get more experience, and get to 200 posts, I’ll go that route but for today thought it wise to play it safe and sleep well.
Couple of quick pictures, I’ll add more when I have it on the wrist.
Came with all papers and original OB receipt for watch and the extra straps; black leather deployant, black rubber and the original metal style. ($2500usd after tax and s/h)

..... one with GMT function! That will most likely be next on my list, would be nice for traveling back to the NL home office. Maybe wrap the coaxial, dress and GMT together in a nice AT... Or whatever else catches my eye on that day when it comes.
One more time, thanks to all members who contributed to this thread, really educational and appreciated.

Don't forget to factor in the price of getting the watch serviced (assuming it hasn't been recently serviced or that you don't know the watch's service history).

Yea I just had my 2254 serviced my Omega after 6 years. $650. Still cheaper than my Rolex service though

Congratulations on your 2254. Great watches, very versatile and look good for just about any occasion. I’m wearing mine on the same OEM black rubber at the moment. Technically speaking mine is the 2054 with a Bond bracelet, but luckily I also have the Speedy style bracket too.

Thanks all for the advice and help. Been wearing for a week and love it. It’s back on the metal strap today, so I could get it sized and end up with a couple extra links.
It had recent service and my AD confirmed it, just did a pressure test and got out of there for $45. The only real extra expenses involved on this one are a couple of different bands and a nice set of spring bar tweezers.
