This should be easy for the experts - is this a redial?

I think that he has just recently become acquainted with vintage watches and was unsure that this relatively old watch could have such a pristine dial. He just wanted some opinions from those with more experience in assessing vintage watches. Frankly, I wish that we had more new members who were equally cautious and who asked questions before pulling the trigger on a purchase. It would save a lot of regret down the road.

@Waltesefalcon the above is exactly correct. I just joined the forum a few days ago. I presented a previous watch I found a while back and was quickly presented with some very on point opinions and suggestions regarding buying a modified watch and sizes etc. I quickly have pivoted from buying for cheap looks to buying for authenticity thanks to the perspectives from the members here. After spending a bit of time reading posts I really did consider that based on price and the looks that the subject watch was a redial. I’m just thankful I posted here before cancelling the order.

I certainly will be taking detailed photos upon receipt and posting an update to clear the air so we as a group can determine true authenticity.

I’m new and didn’t want to buy a watch that was going to be parts value only.

I think it’s original. Love me a waffle dial! (Now I want waffles…)
Great all the amazing perfect NOS waffle dials will disappear from the marketplace very quietly, only to reappear at GTG with

There is nothing quite like a nice waffle dial. This Seamaster 2761 is one of my favorites.

I'm curious as to what was putting @jeremypcarroll off on this dial? It really looks pretty decent from the less than stellar photo.
Agree. OP should state what concerns he has and results of his research, not just make blanket statement.

That’s fair. From reading in other threads it seemed to me like the omega font was too thick (based on most posts calling for really thin font). Additionally, the price seemed pretty low especially compared to known redial watches that were much more expensive. This is something that I am obviously still learning through.

Just wanted to confirm before I cancel my order. After only a few days I’m starting to understand how undesirable these modified watches are. It seems like this is a modified dial based on my own judgement, Just want a second opinion before I cancel my order.

Omega looks slightly off center to me.

The photo is a poor photo, so I have a little trepidation saying it's 100% original or a redial. The biggest thing I think it has going for it that the patina looks to be consistent with what I'd expect of a well taken care of example. I'm happy you decided to ask about it before cancelling your order. I think there's a good chance that you are getting a nice watch at a really good price.

Although it's not very scientific due to original photo not being absolutely perpendicular to the dial, a simple check indicates to me that the Omega text should be slightly more to the right. If positioned correctly, the stem of the "E" should closer to the centre.

@cicindela also noted this.

However, this is the only issue I can see (based on the quality of the photos) and it's not enough for me to give a definite answer.

Agreed. Waffle/honeycomb dials are very difficult to refinish and I’ve yet to see a redialed one that wasn’t poorly executed and pretty obvious.

I imagine that is just the photo. I've not seen a redial on a waffle with this good of script. That said, I agree that we'd need better photos to make any definitive statement.

Yes, but also kinda unfair to be doing all this research now after sale has been completed. I think you can get the watch in hand and make assessment there and then.

Additionally - I think dial is original, but I think hands are suspect perhaps. Find a similar with same configuration.

Totally agree.....its's rare, if not unique, to have this quality of opinion and advice freely, and normally gently, given by folk who have spent many years assimilating the required knowledge. Not seen it anywhere else.

Certainly not an expert, but I do look over 100s of Omega ads every month. From Your photos it certainly looks original. Why would you think it wasn't?

the cost to me was $473 via eBay and was advertised after sale as just having got a service.

For that price I'd have added it to the "Home For Wayward Watches" for certain, but then I have no taste.

For that matter I'll give you your money back if you're not completely satisfied. I'd even have it serviced again for good measure once it arrived 'cause I don't trust Ebay auction claims about recent servicing. Just to show you what a great guy I am.
