Thinking of selling a watch for the first time - Advice?

You didn’t bond with it, it happens. You only have 63 posts to go until you can post a FS ad here, although you have made your intentions known here.
If a fast sale is what you want, then as recommended above, there are several well known dealers that will buy it off of you at wholesale, then sell it for retail, so be realistic about the loss you will take- but then it’s no longer your work to do.

This is the watch. It's lovely. Just don't know why I'm sort of cold on it. Haven't resolved to sell it, yet.

I think it just falls into a hole. If I'm dressed up, I heading for something different - if I'm khaki's and blazers, I'm popping one of the 300Ms or another diver / sport / gmt. I'm not finding that casual middle with this watch.

Seems like a good watch for someone who likes the vintage style, but wants a modern watch, but I don't know how many people fall into that category. To me it seems like a fraud ... I'd always prefer a real vintage watch. And being accustomed to vintage Seamasters, I'm not crazy about the dial and printing.

We have the identical cups & saucers... don't sell those.

Wear it for a month….then get back to us.

It’s waterproof so will take anything your other watches can.

Then you will really know if it’s stay or go…

I second that. Put your other watches away and wear the Seamaster for four weeks, all day, every day. That will determine whether it's a keeper or not. It may prevent you selling a watch that you really like. Sometimes you have to put some effort into the acquisition.

I recently bought this UG, and like the OP, just can't seem to bond with it...
I will also try wearing it as Standy & Evitzee suggest and see what happens!

Sometimes a different strap or a bracelet can totally change the way we feel about a watch. Perhaps a more casual strap like suede or canvas would make you feel differently. Or get an aftermarket bracelet like an Uncle Seiko or Forstner and see if that transforms it for you. If not, the bracelet/strap can be used on another watch so nothing lost,

I have the small seconds version of the Seamaster 1948, and it comes with the same navy blue leather strap as the center seconds one, as well as a gray fabric Nato. If I were the OP, I'd change the strap - it really changes the look. And, as advised above, I'd wear it non-stop for about a month before making a decision. There were relatively few of these made, and it's likely that selling it a bit later might bring a higher price; also, selling it is likely a one-way street.

JwRosenthal is absolutely right that a different strap/bracelet can make a big difference, but for me the issue is that the UG is a bit smaller than the other watches I have and normally wear.

How small? I think a Horween tan leather would breathe some air into that watch. The gold makes it harder to dress down so you need as casual as you can get.

Not particularly small...bezel is a nats under 37mm, but compared to the usual 40+ I wear it feels small!

Wear the 37mm for a month straight and let your eyes get used to it. It will feel normal after that time. Then, put the 40mm+ on and it will feel like you are wearing a dinner plate.

😁 and that's the trouble...I may end up having to sell a dozen or so watches instead of one 😲

It’s warm weather season, hold off until long sleeves come back to make a decision. My 40mm+ watches only get worn in warmer months now (short sleeves) <36mm are awesome in the colder months…doesn’t look like you have a tumor under the sweater sleeve

UPDATE: So...anonymous voices out there, you gave me some good advice. I started wearing the watch to a black tie event, recently - and have decided to keep wearing it. And...it is growing on me fast.

A most excellent "town watch!" Especially nice with khakis and blazers or other smart-looking business casual wear.

I'm sure I'm a fogy, but "all sport/tool watches, all the time" seems to be the way of things with this current generation. It's gotten really same-y out there. I'd sit up and take notice of that watch if spied on a wrist a lot quicker than I would the average sport/tool watch the size of a manhole cover.

It's not your new Seamaster watch that falls into a hole!

Take two aspirin, sleep on it a while, wear the watch in regular rotation a while, and wait until your legitimately reach 200 posts (that's without post farming - which never makes a crop here). If you still feel the need to "sell a watch for the first time" then seek professional horological counseling with an accredited watch nerd.

Nice to hear. This is always the optimal outcome in such a situation.

Time is always critical for rational decision making.
