Hi guys I have a Omega SMP 2018 and wanted to check it with the Weishi 1900. first the lift angle is 38 degrees right?

First question: when I first used it for Dial up I got +8 sec. On my second try I got + 2 , +3 , +4. why does it change after a few sec? (See the pics)

so basically if I want it to slow it down at night I have to put Crown on the right right ?

    here are the pics …

Yes, but this machine will not have the specific software required to accurately measure balance amplitude for co-axial movements.

How long did you let the watch stabilize after you turned it? You need to wait a bit before taking the readings, because when you move the movement around, it will cause the balance to be disturbed.

But generally, watches aren't as stable as most people believe they are. Fluctuations in rate and amplitude are not unusual.

    It would appear so...

    Cheers, Al

Thanks! I now used excel. I let the watch settle for 30 sec before taking a reading.

now crown right is +0. reading is 60 sec

interesting is crown down. Every reading is starting with +2 and then it goes up to +4

i want it more accurate but it’s in Metas and my Real world is around 3 sec a day so the results should be accurate. A better result at Dial up would be nice because I have a watch roll where I store every watch ..

    My 2 cents:
    - in your first pic, something bumped the watch (points off of the trace).
    - As far as I know, the crown should be against the metal pickup mount, not the plastic slider. Be careful not to scratch the watch on the edges of the metal holder.
    - I would select the finer rate display setting (99.9 s/d range, not 999 s/d).
    - I find that in addition to letting the watch settle after rotating the holder (for a minute, maybe), I get better results when I stop and then restart the timegrapher (red button) after the settling period.
Otherwise the (sliding?) average not only seems to take forever to stabilize, but also doesn't really fully reset. Meaning I get a wrong result that depends on what the previous position was. There seems to be something fishy about the averaging algorithm running inside this machine.
    - I'm not sure about the significance of the averaging period one sets in the menu, but I like to use a long setting, and I let the machine run in one position until the (10 s average?) values across the top of the screen are all the same, maybe +/- 0.1s/day.

Also, it's clear from the pics in your post, but does nobody else notice that the acronym 'SMP' is ambiguous in that it could mean both 'SpeedMaster Professional' and 'SeaMaster Professional'? Also, if you have to use an acronym, shouldn't yours have that little 'c' for 'coaxial' (I guess) at the end? Which still wouldn't make it unambiguous. Ok, end of rant.

Yeah, those are co-axial numbers, both the lift angle and amplitudes. I get similar numbers with a pair of 9300 movements. I read somewhere that Witschi recommended 30 degrees before they upgraded their software to lock onto the correct click. Al told me that even with the correct machine and software, co-axials have lower amplitude than lever movements.

I find it doesn't make a difference which way the watch is placed so long as it picks up the sound. I like to place the case against the microphone blade (silver looking one). I also put a piece of scotch tape on the case opposite the crown and another piece on either side of the crown as either side of the stand can leave marks.

If I remember correctly, the numbers across the top of the screen are six seconds apart regardless of time setting. The time setting is the number of seconds of samples used to calculate the current rate and to the best of my knowledge, is a Finite Impulse Response filter, so once the set time has passed, earlier samples have no bearing. I typically set my machine on 20 seconds and allow at least a full traverse of the screen before making any judgement.

I'm still confused. I put the watch on the Timegrapher. I'm waiting around 1 min before I start the reading. I continue the reading till the result (the 7 results on the screen) are within 0.1-0.2 ms

First reading with Crown down +1.1 sec (reading took around 5 min). I waited 10 min (switched off timegrapher) put the watch back on the timegrapher waited again 1 min and then started reading again about 5 min. Now the results are +4.1 sec

Same with dial up. First +2.1 and now +4.1 ?
