Good evening It is not every day that we talk about Movado which in the past before the 80s had made superb watches with Zenith. The one I'm going to present to you was a distant cousin of the El Primero range, it was the Subsea Datron HS360, what differentiated it was the date at 12 noon and not between 4 and 5 am like on the El Primero. A very hard piece to find in excellent condition and a collector sought from now on. Have a nice day very best regards Georges
Reminder, although SL-4 Movado Datron looked more of a blue dial... https://omegaforums.net/threads/no-experts-on-movado-on-of.106442/#post-1443952
I love these. Just picked up one to replace one I foolishly sold to raise funds. 18k Movado Datron HS360 with matching 18k bracelet. Currently en route. Will post wrist shots on arrival.
That is a beautiful watch. Is the bracelet original to the watch? Didn't know they came with 18k bracelets.
Yes sir. I hadn't either but did some research. The bracelet buckle is signed and matches the mesh version I've seen in SS!
Does my unbridled enthusiasm give me a pass? Seller waited almost a week to ship. I think he was having second thoughts
We'll soon learn more about an even more rare and elusive Movado Datachron HS360 automatic chronograph ...
Had to finance new buys at the time.... the mistake still haunts me and will continue to do so untill i buy a solid steel one. I have to!
Hint: Next week... June 1st, 2021 ... Movado aficionados might consider getting the Hodinkee magazine N° 8 for an excellent read ... Edit: it's finally here ! .
It looks like Skylab-4 commander Gerald Carr's Movado Datachron HS360 automatic chronograph was a 1970 version gifted to him by General Thomas Stafford (USAF General since November 1972) beforeSkylab trainng started... and we see Carr wearing the Datachron in 1971 NASA photographs. Although the HS360 wasn't produced for long as the "Datachron" ( it soon became renamed "Datron" ) I wonder if anyone knows if the chronograph hand was original for the 1970 Datachron ? Most Datachron I have seen have the long-triangular flat base chronograph hand . . The HODINKEE article is here: https://www.hodinkee.com/magazine/snuck-into-space
Here is my blue dial Movado Datron with grey subdials. It's an awesome color combo and this watch has so much character. Also, this Datron seems to be a slightly later model which has applied hour markers and a tachymeter ring (later or different model?). The Gay freres bracelet it came on is from 1970.
My picture, not my watch but worth the sharing I guess. See that little extra line that makes all the difference
