The Flightmaster thread

hello, i would like to introduce myself using the flightmaster as a valid excuse, thus i understand that this thread is perfect for the purpose,

i am mech. eng. by degree and very interested in fine machinery from the 60/80 eras, from cars to cameras, and of course watches. anything that moves, rotates, goes up or down, spins, makes odd noises and smells fuel or grease may reasonably capture my attention.
i have had some watches, i can describe some of them later, nothing really exceptional, most linked to sentimental values, but this case is special.

i have been more an iwc guy, the thing, excuse, was my family proposing to buy a watch for completing my MSc degree, just like they did for my father, and my grand father before, but all those watches were gold omegas,...and i did not like gold watches, so i bought a titanium iwc,...ok but that is another story.
i am here to share and enjoy about this nice new friend...

more to follow, i am just learning how it works,...many questions to answer yet

regards

Welcome esperando 😀
What a lovely 910 "with dots". Enjoy it in good health!

This thread is becoming a flightmaster reference guide 😀

I love the flightmaster but I am still trying to get used to that case.... this is probably the reason why isn't as popular as a speedy?

thank you so much for your care and comprehension, as i know from other forums, the main blood in a forum veins is pictures, not all the pics will reveal perfect things, but life is like that, and we can also contribute to the previously mentioned “guide”
please indulge me to show you the thing and let me ask some questions then, i would appreciate your answers

it is a 145.013 according to the back plate

movement caliper 910

IMHO, it is a very clean and neat watch, i have been educated into this model by a friend that has a respetable collection, me do not know much, but i am eager to learn

case looks very nice almost no scratches

glass is doomed and newly replaced, watch has been serviced and come with a two year warranty, it works flawlessly in + 4seg/day

the DC8 and other marks in the back of the case are not very strong

not everything was going to be so good, i can almost not wear it, band is incomplete and thus too tight,...

but band reveals other problems,

this was a one owner watch, i simply love it, a 45 year old object in perfect working condition

ok, is seems that the lock belongs to other watch model 1212 not flightmaster, right ?

but the end link is an 172, which could be ok, am i right ?

there is an odd number carved in one side, any clue what this might mean ?

the lock is too short, but it is trapezoidal

here i see, original polished on the left, and new on the right, do you agree ?

in principle i am in need of more of these links to extend the band to my size, and a correct lock would be very welcome
anyone can help with directions or someone has them to sell ?
much appreciated

edit: a gentleman asked if this watch was for sale, i would like to apologize if i gave that impression, i just bought it and i would like to keep it and enjoy it as much as i can

The feeling you get, when you receive a Extract of the Archives for a tropical 910 Flightmaster with yellow hands, and it states delivery to Iran in 1971. 😲

I'm surprised it made it out alive! Did you buy that one from the OF classifieds?

Iran wasn't an uncommon destination for Omega back in the day. There's a local brick-and-mortar specializing in vintage Omegas owned by a person of Iranian heritage, and I've seen several Cosmics there with Farsi calendar script.

I take terrible photos. Just got my extract after a significant wait—-apparently this one started off close to home.

Another one joining the club, perfect opportunity for my first post. This was a very recent birthday present from my lovely wife, purchased after she watched Antiques Roadshow ! I’m certainly not complaining..

Relatively late watch compared to most on this thread, a 145.036 with 3993xxxx serial number. Looks like it’s suffered a little water ingress judging by the hands and the case refinishing is a little uneven , even to my untrained eye. Will be talking to Simon Freese as a more local option versus sending back to Bienne. There’s some evidence of servicing inside the case back, three entries for certain and possibly a fourth of fifth but they are pretty illegible

I’ve already requested the archive extract , super excited by this watch.

Right now a very happy man,

Yes, just the somewhat disappointing note in an envelope these days, you’d think the price would come down as they’re certainly cutting costs there. I probably won’t moan though if the wait time turns out to be short.
