The Flightmaster thread

I already posted some photos on another thread but since this is THE thread. I sent my flightmaster to Omega last July and got it back last week.
I spent a couple of years looking for one with sharp lines that I could afford. The worst damage to it was where it looked like someone tried to take the caseback off with a butter knife and there was what I assume to be a watchmaker's mark near one of the lugs. Omega did a great job minimizing the damage. I thought they might replace the caseback but they just refinished it so I got to keep the original.

I just started timing it and it appears to be running around +2 seconds so that is nice too. It was at +10 when I sent it off.

Omega do a great job, especially when you are an informed customer. The watch looks wonderful.

I have an Uncle strap bracelet to suit the MKll speedie, on mine it fits well enough. you don't notice that it's 20mm as you cant see the ends, it's very comfortable.
If it bothers you that much that the ends are a little small, you could make up some spacers, but I'm not gonna bother with spacers.

I had my 145.013 done by Tanner at TM watch Co. I left the bracelet, dial and hands original. I think the case looks great.

Looks great - was it serviced or just the case refinished? Keen to have my 145.026 case done but I鈥檓 unsure with whom to entrust it.

@paddymoran , the watch was serviced with the case restoration. it did take a bit of time to complete, I believe it was 9 weeks. the guy is super busy, as a result communication was slower than I like. his website is TMwatchco.com

50 years ago... ASTP training
Apollo-Soyuz Test Project training continued as the Russians revisited the USA in September 1974. Wrist-watch-wise an interesting period with extensive international coordination training between 10 - 25 Sept at NASA-JSC Houston TX.
They even visited Thomas Stafford house for a BBQ, meet the Shoshone indians in Wyoming and had visited President Gerald Ford at the White House in Washington DC. MoonwatchUniverse published a dozen photos of that visit showing Leonov wearing his Omega flightmaster while using a Bolex Paillard film camera!
Remember since their May 1973 visit to Omega HQ in Bienne - Switzerland, cosmonauts prefered the flightmaster pilot watches, and although in July 1974 a final decision had been made that all ASTP spacefarers should wear an Omega Speedmaster, Leonov still wore his flightmaster during training.
Eventually 11 Omega Speedmaster chronographs were used during the Apollo-Soyuz spaceflight mission in July 1975. Both spacecraft were docked for 47 hours as the NASA astronauts each wore two NASA-issued 321 versions while the Soviet-Russian cosmonauts wore 861 versions (145.022 : Leonov 3 & Kubasov 2).

1974-2024... 50 years Omega flightmaster in spaceflight
Although Omega no longer uses the name "flightmaster" (written with a small "f"), this robust pilot watch has an amazing history in spaceflight history, flown onboard Soyuz-14 (July 1974) to Space Shuttle "Atlantis" mission STS-46 (July 1992).It surely was a favorite of Alexei Leonov, who wore it since late May 1973 up to 1976 as a daily beater ! MoonwatchUniverse just complete an overview article on the well-known "flightmaster"... (Photos: TASS/NASA)
