Hi all. I've recently inherited my father's watch that had been boxed and unused since 1979. Looking at some of the watches above it looks similar. I'm curious as to what it is and learn a bit more about it. I have all the paperwork and the original box. The guarantee says it's 18k solid gold and has a number of BA 168.019. It had a gold bracelet that wasn't Omega on it, which I have replaced with a leather strap so I could wear it. I've attached a photo, I wasn't sure whether I should show the original certificate. Any help would be appreciated. Regards Guy
Very nice watch! The 168.019 number is the reference number of the watch. If you’re going to start wearing it you’ll want to look into finding an independent watchmaker with an Omega parts account who can service the movement for you. If it’s been sitting that long all of the oils inside are long since dried up. Running it dry will result in wear and tear on the movement components. If you search the forum you’ll find many discussions on suggested watchmakers.

Hi folks. Long time listener first time caller. Thanks for the many hours of enjoyment I’ve had reading these boards. I am looking at adding to my collection and picking up a solid gold c case 168009. I have seen this one from 1966 with 561 movement. The case back has some strange additional model codes (which I’ve marked in red), can anyone shed light on these? Thanks

I can't - seen them before but can't say what they are

But my suggestion is to take it as a warning to inspect the lugs closer, inside and out - the watch already has thin lugs, possible sign of an excessive refinishing, look at the inside lugs to see whether it had an integrated bracelet that was now removed

Thanks kaplan, here is the full for sale link which I forgot to include. Does anything else jump out at you? https://www.watches-of-bath.com/pro...ation-c-case-cyclops-calendar-watch-full-set/

I purchased a watch from them before, papers are all aesthetical for display purposes, main issue is their refinishing, I really didn't like it, close up you can see lines intersect each other - they also left a residue inside a crystal, I had to remove the crystal, clean it and re-attach - other than this had no issues, the dial/hands were in incredible condition - if they left the watch as is though, it would've been more valuable, they reduced the value by the professional yet sloppy restoration

This watch is the same, you can see lines merging, the caseback finish should've been perfectly radial:

Thanks for the reality check @kaplan. Its not exactly a veritable bargain so I’ll keep my funds in a holding pattern while I keep watching the market for 18k c cases.

Finally wrapped up the service on the linen dial for the missus.

It always bothered me just a little bit that her c-case was sunburst dial while my main one was linen dial.

The first vintage watch I bought was this C-case. Still very happy with it 😀

I am happy with my new addition. It wasn't that easy to find a 168.017 with dauphine hand, onyx inserts and sunburst finish 😀.

PS: Correction, Kaan just said that it is not onyx, but that the indexes are painted - we want to stay correct here 👍

Hi folks, haven’t posted in a while.

I have not so recent obsession with the omega enamelled dials.

I have never been a fan of redials, however this is a watch I have been after for sometime and the current owner has been open about its redial.

What are your thoughts on this? Or is this just a pass?

Owner is indeed a very nice person but the watch is a pass for many reasons, the redial did fool me though, from a distance I thought it was original, but closer, the lume spots are very displeasing
