·I posted a WTB here and it was answered within a few days. That’s probably not typical, but not out of the question either. The 1040 is also common enough to source a whole bracelet at a reasonable cost, with a bit of patience.

Thanks for the advice and inspiration @kaplan & @__ryan__ I picked one up from closer and although the case and bracelet could use a bit of work, the dial I pretty close to perfect and I’m smitten!

·Recently I have developed a strong feeling for late 60's early 70's watches. Of course the C-shaped Constellation is a must and here's mine 168.017.
I love it. It's in a quite good shape, with correct 1040 bracelet and 518 endlinks. I have chosen the baton hands with tritium (hence the "T swiss made T"), even if dauphine hands are not bad at all.

·Yes, sometimes very professionally refinished, and around 25% of the watches in the market are refinished, ones from Japan are usually hard to tell
Looks perfect at first:
But if you look really closely at the chamfer, you can see that it's sharper near the crown than it is at the ends of the lugs. That will probably just be because it has been subject to more natural wear at the lugs. But the brushed finish on the top of the lugs and on the sides of the case would inevitably have acquired more scratches if the watch had been worn enough to blunt the chamfer. So my assumption is that the finish on the top and sides of the case has been professionally restored.
Should this bother me? I don't think so. It's a beautiful watch and doubtless looks better than it would have done without refinishing. I think collectors sometimes obsess a little too much about original condition. If we only accept watches that have never been refinished, then we consign 90% of watches to "undesireable" status because they will either be heavily scratched or restored. I think that would be a shame!

I started a Youtube series on C-Case’s by the way, it’s quite far from perfect and I could’ve dived into things with some better planning, but it was kinda the reason why I decided to do videos as they are low effort / high yield in terms of information. Should be ready to show soon

As you can tell from my avatar I'm also into vintage King Seiko. I think there are some styles of watches that respond very well to professional case restoration if it's done sensitively and really well, and others that just don't. C-cases in general I think are usually in the former category, because most surfaces have a convex profile and/or a brushed finish. Highly polished flat surfaces are usually restricted to narrow bevels (and even then they are only flat in one dimension, not the second because they follow the curve of the case edge). Most vintage King Seikos however have extensive areas of flat surface without any curvature, like the facets of a crystal, and these meet at sharp angles. It's extremely difficult to restore such surfaces while keeping them uniformly flat right up to the interface with the adjoining surface. I think the Lapinist is the only person who manages it, and even then you can tell it's been done because they look too perfect...

Will you do a video covering all possible dial combinations ? I really want a black dial or a dark grey dial watch but for guys with little experience like me buying what looks good on CH24 is like packing my own parachute.... This thread is great but it still leaves me feeling nervous where as a comprehensive all in one video would answer everyones questions.

·Great videos Kaan! It's really awesome that you put these together to share your knowledge with everyone in an easy to digest format. Information in forum threads gets so scattered around it's much better to have it all compiled in one place. I watched the first two videos last night and will definitely watch the remaining videos. I wasn't aware of the modern 3011 bracelet option but I'm intrigued by that. My only suggestions is you forgot to tell everyone to "SMASH that Like and Subscribe button" at the end of the video. 😁
