I'd have to second redial. Font does look off, even taking in crystal distortion. The O and F in officially are touching, a big red flag.
It would be a brave man to redial a linen face, they must be a nightmare to work on.

Thanks for the input. Again for what I paid it was a good deal. I could easily sell the bracelet and the head separately and make my money back and a little more.

My second c-case Constellation, the silver sparkle dial is quite clean. The first, a nice168.029 gray dial is with my son-in-law. With another son-in-law on the way, got this 168.017 to give him. But I'm so taken with this dial, I may have to give him something else from my little collection. The dial goes from simple white or gray, to sparking platinum or even gold, depending on the light.

Give him something else! That’s too good to pass on. My 168.017 is the same style and it’s compelling to watch how the linen dial catches the light. Wear in good health!

Thanks! Wear yours in excellent health, too. I think I will follow your advice, already searching for candidates.
BTW, was looking unsuccessfully for a discussion, write-up or listing of the Constellation dial colors related to ours. Would appreciate anyone sending a link.
Reviewed Desmond's excellent c-case essay and saw that he called our dial style "silky guillouche." I wonder if this referred to just our color shade, or for the other colors, too.
For that matter, are there other shades, or are the different colors in the photos I've seen just the dials' reflection of ambient light? Am pretty sure though, that there had to be a gold guillouche dial for the gold-cased constellations.
Also, from the photos I've seen, I think the c-case Constellations have the best implementation of the silky guillouche dial shade. They catch the light best and if unmolested with remain in very clean shape. Cheers!

168.017 comes (as many references do) in a variety of dial and furniture variants. Ours is the non-lumed silver version but you’re correct in that the gold-cased examples have a gold silky guilloche dial to match. I believe the phrase refers to the texture of the dial, not its colour. You can see the gold variant (with lume pips and lumed hands) in this thread - I’ve posted mine lower down in the thread).

The linen textured dial seems quite popular - or have been better looked after! And Desmond replied to a thread a while back suggesting that these tend to be in better condition than other textures, based on what he’d seen. Though it’s not entirely clear why. Certainly would be tricky to redial! You see plenty of linen dials on the fluted bezels, too. Here’s a photo from a sales listing of a 168.027 with similar configuration to ours (not my photo):

I think the non-lumed versions of these have a slightly smarter, dressier look. Glad you’re keeping yours!

Hi Guys,

I'm sorry to announce this is my first post, however I've only been reading along for now.
I have the opportunity to buy an Omega Constellation C-Shape from a private guy a few hours away tomorrow and i just wanted to get your opinion on the watch.

The watch is a 18k Gold 169.029 from around 1969. I think the condition is pretty nice, at least from looking at the pictures. The dial is gold also, hence the "OM" markings.

Do you see anything out of the ordinary here? I will probably not be able to open the watch and will have to rely on a future service of the 751 movement. Of course i will check all functions, winding the watch, etc. This is not my first vintage purchase, however the first vintage Omega. I have already reviewd MOY and other Information on this reference i found (esp. from Desmond's blog page) and found nothing inconsistent so far. The only thing i notices is that the 9' o clock marker is missing some paint.

Thanks for your help!

welcome @enquire
It’s a good looking watch.
Lots of pics but none of them quite sharp enough to assess the watch in detail.

BTW I think that the indices should have jet inserts, so it may not be a bit of paint missing from the 9 index. (So take a loupe with you)

Hello.
Nice looking watch, nothing bad jumps out, apart from the marker. I would at least try and get the back off to get a look at the movement. Sticky balls, balls of duct tape or even dog toys do work surprising well. I'm sure the owner won't mind 😗
Good luck.

This beauty is on its way to my wrist.
Trying to see if I can find one with a dial like this. So far it is the brown or grey that has this gradient dial. And both on steel cases.

Such a great thread. I don't think I've posted this here before. Ref 168.017 with grey dial on a 1507 brick bracelet. Came to me from Japan.

so i just got this to my watchmaker, I'm new so pleaqse forgive me, my first Omega, was passed down to me, so i guess vintage? he opened it up, looked at it, i'm getting it full serviced, now he mentioned i should switch out crown and glass, croen i guess is warn off finish? and glass has a deep scratch in it. my question is, should i or not? keep it all original or have it switched out, watchmaker did assure me that the part will be original parts though. Your thoughts everyone?

Changing the crown & crystal is always recommended practice.

If the scratch can't be polished out I'd swap it for a genuine crystal.
Watch crowns add to the watches overall water resistance, but the small rubber gaskets inside wear out over time. If it's going to be a daily wearer I'd replace the crown but make sure you get the original back if you ever want to swap it back. It's your watch so your choice.

p.s. nice watch
