It was the first one we had been to since pre- Covid. Had a good box with quick access to the bathrooms, lounge and exit (although the musicians still beat us to the parking garage).
We are lucky enough here in Baltimore to still have a world class orchestra- lots have disappeared in the last decade.
Support live music folks, or it will be a thing of the past!
We're also fortunate in my locale to have one of the best small city symphony orchestras in the U.S. and their venue is a great example of New Deal construction. Take a look at the organ, the Zodiac on the ceiling, the marble accents, and the mural of human history that extends along the back wall. They don't make them like this anymore, folks.

Gotta have watch straps to match all the shoes and belts. Or, is it shoes and belts to match the watch straps?

Harrisburg?
Yes. Not exactly what you might expect for rural Pennsylvania. Excellent local theater here too.

Guilty of several of these - pausing movies, noticing watches, drawer full of straps in my watch box, pulling out my own loupe at the jeweler...

I have to attend a conference in Las Vegas for work in August, and what I'm most looking forward to are the various watch boutiques and shops there. 🙄

Another watch and symphony orchestra fan.

For decades we bought season tickets to the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, beginning when our two sons were small. Spent the past 14 years living just a little too far out to make so many performances so resorted to individual performances on a weekend in town. We recently moved closer in so are grateful to be able to again purchase season tickets.

State Capitol and a manufacturing power house well into the 80’s with a serious amount of wealth and culture- makes sense.
Cities like Pittsburgh, Detroit and Cleveland had some of the best symphony’s in the world at that time, you wouldn’t think about those cities now in regards to classical music.

1. I will happily wire 1000s of dollars to people I’ve only met on the internet

2. I have a small suitcase full of watch straps that I put a new watch on before finally putting it back on its original bracelet

3. I have to intercept any FedEx packages before they reach the general household

You clearly haven’t executed #3 properly. The goal is to have them say “oooo, what did we get?”. Then they abscond with the new watch as you are throwing the packaging away. Wait….I guess it backfired on me 🙁

I have multiple contacts in my phone (some of whom are good friends), with the watch brand I associate with them in the place of their last names.

And glad to see the symphonic digression above. I regularly attend the organ recitals at our local concert hall (pictured below), and it’s been a relief to see attendance bounce back this season 😀

I do something similar, in place of their picture I add their actual watch or car depending on the contact.

Check out the acoustics treatments on that place!! Probably not a bad seat in the house.
I went to the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia when it was newly opened and they were christening their new pipe organ- of course it was Saint-Seans. We had nose-bleed seats (went with a small group who all drove up together just for that occasion- new pipe organ within driving distance- road trip!!) , back row at the top, but when that organ kicked in- holy shit! Awesome acoustics there.

When you ask a watch seller on a flea market to open a watch, and when he asks « why? » you reply « to see what’s inside ».

I grew up listening to many classic recordings by the Cleveland Orchestra under George Szell. I really didn't appreciate at the time how small Cleveland was compared to the other US cities with world-class orchestras.

Bit biased because we are regular CSO attendees. There are so many great local Orchestras out there. Chamber groups too. Find em, support em.

I should mention that it’s the Overture Center in Madison, WI. The acoustics are insane. No dead spots that I’ve been able to detect (and the organ sounds best in the nosebleeds).

And I grew up in Philly and visit often. If I had to use one word to describe seeing a performance at the Kimmel Center, it would be this: dope.

Many of the best Szell recordings were done in the early 60’s while he was with Epic records. They were absolute show-off recordings for the newly developed stereo recording process. Play them on a vintage hi-end system (in my case: Ortofon SPU, Audio research tube gear and Klipshorns) and it will sound larger than life- a full concert hall experience.

You're correct about Szell. Some Cleveland Symphony recordings under George Szell are in the vinyl library and they're first rate. Beethoven's symphonic works and a quite tasty "Rhapsody In Blue" which is the best rendition in my view. I need to unpack them from a recent move.

There were several piano concerto with Leon Fleisher and Szell that will literally take your breath away. Not just for the performance but also for the production quality of the recording. They are among the records I break out when I’m trying to rattle the windows. That and the Allman’s at the Fillmore.
