I seriously doubt Rolex would give an "inside line" to anybody. They don't have the need or inclination to help Everest sell straps, especially since the watch was engineered for the bracelet that came with it. There aren't any suppliers that can sneak cases out for aftermarket companies, like the electronics makers, either. That said, your idea they are making more 42mm cases could be quite true. We shall know in a few days.
Agreed Rolex is not apple, they do not need aftermarket parts suppliers. Rolex has gone to great lengths be super annoying to switch straps. There is no reason a Daytona on bracelet should have a different springbar location then the one on a strap. Ok there is a small reason but no other mfg does it that way.

Rolex - maintaining high retail prices by keeping dealer inventory lower than demand

Omega - creating higher transaction prices by releasing many new models with anticipated demand as LE’s with obvious goal of keeping inventory lower than demand

During current global economic conditions, the evidence says both Rolex and Omega strategies are working to increase their profits. I can’t imagine either have too much interest in changing...

Here in Montreal there is also a purported "waitlist" though if you have a connection with a retailer they are often able to ditch you in ahead of the queue. My brother (who has such a contact) walked out with a GMT II same-day a few months back. The shop said the Subs (w date & without) were in especially high demand but they could get one to us within 2 weeks (which was considered to be bypassing the waitlist).

I dunno, maybe I'm a moron but I don't get it. I bought a Sub-Date new in 84 for CAD $1599 and a GMT II in 86 for CAD $1600. Didn't like either and they were gone within a few years. Now you're telling me they're worth $10k used??? For a stainless watch with a flimsy embarrassment of a fliplock clasp? And often you find used (but not vintage) ones that are actually more expensive than new? WTF.

Luckily I went to work for Omega in Bienne for several years so stocked up on good product!

/end rant

I can't help but think that Rolex is gradually positioning Tudor in the mid tier section Rolex used to operate in, with the long term goal of elevating the Crown to a more mid-upper tier/luxury position, where they are more expensive and more importantly exclusive.

Many people are expressing shock that Rolex allowed Tudor to release such a well designed pepsi GMT at the same time as the new Rolex Pepsi. Is this purely because they want to eventually sell Tudor to the masses whilst Rolex creeps ever increasingly towards to upper echelons???

Soooo, here is something interesting.

The Omega OB in Denver (Hyde Park Jewelers) is the only independently owned OB in the country. They are remodeling and moving their Rolex inventory into the separate (but smaller) Omega section of the store (adjacent stores with a big opening between them), and will be getting a larger inventory of Rolex watches. Their store is a virtual playground of watches already!

In the larger section of the store they'll still have Omega, JLC, VC, Patek, Panerai, IWC, Hublot, Cartier, Longines, TAG, Tudor, Bremont, and a couple of others (which watch is the one with the strap that looks like a tire tread?). The OB side was about 15-20% of the whole store, while Rolex had one huge display case in the main section of the store - mostly Datejust and Oyster perpetual, and womens watches with diamonds, and a few SS sport watches and Gold Subs and Gold GMT. Haven't seen a Daytona, Hulk, Deep Sea, BLNR, or Explorer II there in a while. They only got 2 ceramic Daytona in 2017 and 1 this year so far.

They're in the dark as much as anyone, I was in there tonight.

Indianapolis dealer said they’ve been given a nod that they’re going to receive a fair amount of SS sport models this year. I couldn’t get more information than that.

On a side note, day two owning a Rolex. I love this thing! Less legibility than the speedy pro but holy hell is it comfortable. And it dresses down awfully nicely.

First of all, to the OP, London and UK in general is not a normal market. Everything is always more expensive there and demand always higher.

Secondly, Rolex had an annual limit to how many watches they will ship to a given market (classic supply/demand play, Veblen goods and all that). In the case of USA, Rolex hit that quota in August of last year and stopped shipping ss sport Rolex, resulting in a very short supply.

Another readon for drying up the supply could be for price increases.

Regardless, I would hold off on many sport Rolex at this point. For instance, the smart money is on an overhaul of the diver line for next year with a slightly slimmer case, updated movement, etc.

Now, their new GMT releases - very hot!

Everyone is talking about this.

"When will Rolex steel sports watches be available in every store without waiting?"

Nov. 2017 We were on holiday in singapore and I just walked in one of the rolex AD and walked out with sub ND 114060. Thinking Im just lucky that time coz other AD in singapore just laughing at me when I asked for sub ND/ with date or other SS model. I believe also when you have a good relation with a Rolex dealer its much easier to get hot items. Last month here in OZ my dealer called me and offered skydweller SS black dial but I turned it down coz Im on the hunt for gmt batman which she will let me know right away if they get one.note that I bought my YM40 blue dial 116622 from them. I also drop by and give the staff cake/chocolate etc. to make them happy and create a much better relation with them. But thats just me and every special occasions like xmas staffs will give me some rolex goodies as a gift while still waiting for my item.

The shop said the Subs (w date & without) were in especially high demand but they could get one to us within 2 weeks (which was considered to be bypassing the waitlist).

So it turns out my brother (mentioned above) didn't really like the color of the GMT II he recently bought (black bezel) but he took it due to immediate availability and a slight price consideration thru his contact at the AD. He paid $9800 CAD tax-in which is actually pretty good, that's about USD $7450 tax-in, and tax is over 15% up here in Montreal. Since I actually like the black bezel I told him I'd buy it from him if he really wanted to get the black/blue version (I know his weak spot haha!). So he's selling me his 3 month old GMT for 8k CAD. Didn't think I'd go back to Rolex but with all this talk of imbalanced/manipulated supply & demand I think I'm crazy not to...

I will report back with news about what his AD says re: waitlist on the replacement.

I've been collecting Omegas for years and have visited the Museum and Factory in Bienne several times. Recently got into Rolex, first one was a SS Date Just on an Oyster Bracelet, traded it last year on my first Panerai. Then bought a black dial Explorer II love that watch. Traded the Panerai last weekend for a deposit on the new Deepsea D-Blue and and I'm on a waitlist for a black dial SS Daytona, my AD said it would take about a year. I have a great relationship with my AD, so the moral to the story: develop a good relationship with one AD and transact all your new watch business through them and they will take care of you.

So it's come to the stage where walking into an AD with cash and being told "ah, we know you and you spend a lot of money here so for you the wait's only a year" is being taken care of?!🤦

Yes - I've walked into both of my Rolex AD about 10x in the past 2 years and they still can't get me a white dial ceramic Daytona (only bought 3 watches at one AD and 1 watch at the other, because I'm saving my money for the grand prize).
