Stainless sports Rolex dealer stock........

I was referring more to the general commentary often repeated on other forums of Rolex staff being rude and snooty compared to Omega etc etc.

It seems the stock issue is real based on all the responses, obviously beyond the scope of a store attendant.

All I can say is my experience does not reflect that.

I actually offered buying a pair of watches to get a Daytona and the answer was “ the Daytona is distributed on a wait list basis. And I was gobig to get a Sea Dweller and a Yatchclub in addition to the Daytona.

They had the Daytona on hand, but would not break the list.

Have I just found the “honest” exception? I don’t know. It is what it is.

Both my my local Rolex AD have a "list" for the white dial ceramic Daytona, but it mean nothing when they tell me last week that "customers who spend hundreds of thousands of dollars at their store get them first." I wanted to launch into a profanity ridden tirade and tell them where they can stick their little pretty watches, and then remembered that I want them to like me and find me one, but $100K is a lot of money. So, I have no idea where to even start with planning a bank robbery... Instead I bought some lottery tickets.

Oddly both my local AD’s have Explorer 2’s in, both white and black dials. Clean out of everything else unless you’re spending 100k +

It's understandable that they would give their most sought-after pieces to their best clients.
I know someone that got a white ceramic Daytona after a 3 months wait (this took place last summer). Oh, and he got a 10% discount from list price ::facepalm1::
It's an AD that also sells preowned watches, and it took a lot of complicated pateks & 6263s to reach this relationship 😀

Not all of us can afford vintage. Most vintage Rolex sports watches cost well in excess of their modern equivalents at this point. I would love to own a 5513 or 1675, but I just don't have >$10k in cash to plunk down on one.

You dont need to buy 4 digit references to go into vintage. 16700 or 16710 with T dial is vintage sweetness with modern features at a more reasonable price point. Do consider them.

The amount of lore around Rolex is crazy: everyone hears different stories from their “trusted” AD and they all get passed around as real.

It’s interesting to watch and I’m sure it’s working since people are still excited to get on The List to please be allowed to give them buckets of money in exchange of waiting a few years for the new shiny exclusive and rare model that everyone else has.

I mean, dude, this is a hobbyist site for watches so.... That's kinda like what we do. I would venture less people have a ceramic daytona than a planet ocean, a speedy or an AT, and we still discuss those and we still get in a year waiting gist for a ST.

Also, I'll add, I'm a little mystified by all the posts, mostly as it relates to Rolex but... Whatever, stating that " you spend thousands of dollars for something everyone has... " or equivalent. I for one don't buy a watch because nobody has it.... Or because everybody has it, just because I like it and want to have it.

Not buying because something is popular is as weak as buying because something is popular.... Or buying because it is unpopular and it somehow elevates your status. Basically the only legitimate reason to buy is because.... You like and want something.

If anyone is really affraid of buying what others have in watches I offer some depressing perspective. What car do you drive? Do you wear jeans? Do you wear sneakers? Do you wear a suit? What is your favorite brand of cereal? Is that an iPhone or a Samsung?...... But oh, wait.... You're not wearing a Rolex, you're different!

Curious if the price has gone up as they said it would? My local boutique mentioned that it may be in 2018.

Similar stories in NJ as those above. Besides the opposition to shipping (which I haven’t heard yet, but I believe it), it’s amazing that having the ability to pay full price for a luxury item isn’t enough to buy the item.

Hard to think of other items where it’s the same. A Porsche dealer wouldn’t decline selling you a Porsche if you hadn’t bought 3 or 4 of them there already.

Scarcity trumps all, I guess.

I'm a long way from any Rolex dealer, & can't afford one anyway.
This thread just gives me the image of flash shops full of staff, with no watches to sell.
Rolex's tactic, whatever it turns out to be, seems to be approaching "The Emperor's New Clothes" territory.

Hans Wildorf's legacy lives on, he was an expert of marketing. All of this discussion drives the hype!

True, Rolex is the very best example for marketing done right 👍

In southern Germany the waiting lists for the GMT Batman are exploding (even though they are easily available on the grey market with little premium) and not even in the Rolex boutique Geneva the supply is any better.

"Standard" black submariners are available though.

It's almost 2 years since I got on the Ben Bridge Jewelers Rolex AD in Denver list (in March 2016), and was told I was the first person to get on their list right after the white dial ceramic Daytona was announced.

I got worried and added myself to the other Denver Rolex AD's list about 8 weeks later. So, my friend who has bought several watches at the other AD, and got on their list the day that I got on the Ben Bridge list, well he got his 2-3 weeks ago. I kinda wish I'd gone to the other AD at the exact same time, and maybe I'd be next?

It sucks because the other AD can't tell me how many people are ahead of me, and I can't buy more watches from them to move up on their list or else I wont have the money to buy the Daytona when it comes in. I'm in the position where I'd have to use a credit card to snap it up, and then sell off 3-4 watches to pay it off, where normally I don't buy any watch until I have all of the money.

I just don't want to do a sell off now, because if I don't get the ceramic Daytona then I also don't have the ones I sold, and also somehow that money always gets spent on something else that comes up unexpectedly. (maybe sell black V-serial Rolex Exp II with 3186, SMPc, Tudor BBR on leather and steel, maybe an older Ti SMP chronograph unless my son begs me not to - although the Exp II is really the only one I'd be okay selling as the best bang for the buck.)

I’m in Dubai, no stainless at the dealer in the airport. Less than helpful sales kids.

Haha, I can imagine. I remember the watches being stacked together as if it was 50 dollar swatches. Not a luxury presentation

I even found the Picture I made back then:
