Just back from holidays in Italy, Sicily. At AD in Taormina I saw in display window they have SS Submariner Date and next to it also Submariner No date. Few meters further there is Tudor dealer, which have in show window Tudor GMT and 58. Was very surprised since everywhere is waiting list...

I was tempted for no date, but at the end I didn’t go in, so I can not say, sorry. But if interested- the AD name is ROCCA

A. This thread should be stickied.

B. Rolex won. Here I am, someone who wouldn't have cared about what Rolex was doing, angry about manufactured supplly/demand, and going into a Rolex AD to asking if they have a SS submariner (even though I won't be buying one). 🤦

What does a 10 year wait mean ? Are people booking it today are still confident that they will like this watch 10 years down the line ?
Does the Rolex really produce them in lesser numbers viz a viz their demands ? ( if no, then where do they store them for 10 years 😀 )

I'm not confident I'll ever see the one I'm on a 4 yr list for....heck I cant even get a Tudor GMT without a 12 month + wait in the UK - at least from my local AD...

I walk into a rolex ad in Greece today and they had in stock a gmt- black bezel, two tone gmts, two tone daytonas, an explorer 1 a milgaus and an airking (and a lot of other dresier models). From a conversation i had with the shop owner ( a very friendly guy) they do get a lot fewer sport models than before but the situation is not as crazy as some say and in his opinion its not worth to pay the crazy amounds of money that people ask for a grey market daytona or pepsi gmt.
Don't get me wrong they do fly out as soon as they get them, and i was lucky enough to get inn they day they had stock inn.
The waiting time for a ceramic daytona he said if i want one is two years.
Anyway the only modern rolex i like and willing to pay the price is the explorer 1.
I got 5% discount and i left the shop with a smile in my face and an explorer in my wrist 😀

nice watch. but how is a 2 year wait for a Daytona "not as crazy as some say". that seems pretty crazy!

The casino near me seems to get subs and gmts (not Pepsi) pretty often. They are sold quick, but they are also replenished often. I haven’t seen ceramic daytonas, but I don’t go very often.

The "not so crazy" goes for what same people say that you can not get a basic sport model and that is the rarest thing out there, and for the 5 or even 10 years of waiting time for a ceramic daytona
Of course i still think that even the two year that i was quoted is crazy time. some people may choose to wait, i don't judge them, but i wouldn't.
life is too short to spent it waiting 😉

If it walks like a duck....

Rolex has cut production. We’ll all just have to get used to that. It’s an undisputed fact. I’m trying to be blunt because it seems a lot of folks still don’t believe it. Rolex could make as many stainless sport models as they want, they could meet demand and then some, easily. But they’re not. It’s on purpose.

Here are is my two-fold theory: They want to create a more exclusive air, which they’re doing, they’re the talk of the town. Secondly, they’re creating a baseline for their distribution. When times are down, they’ll meet demand, when times are hot, they’ll be hot too.

Remember that Rolex is charitable trust, and they can do as they please, and that’s what they’re doing. The music has stopped and now we’re mad.

I have a nice Explorer II 16570 and I’m on the wait list for the new Pepsi GMT. If I get one, great! If not, it doesn’t matter. In the mean time I’ll enjoy other watches, because yes, there are other watches out there!

A lot of people only want what they can’t have. Where were these folks 3 years ago? Whatever Rolex is doing here is working.

So, in the mean time, it might be time to discover other brands.

Well, you should call Rolex headquarters and tell them.

Exactly right. No AD would do that unless they wan't to cease being an AD.

Who is arguing Rolex hasn't cut production? The "why" is argued ad infinitum, but I haven't heard many people make the case that there isn't an actual shortage of steel sport watches.

Also how is this "working for Rolex"? We have no idea why they are doing this. I suspect it's a long con to condition customers to paying 2x the current cost so when there is a mega price hike no one will care because at least you can get it at retail. But i could be totally wrong who knows?

You misunderstand. I meant in a wider context. I hear all the time from ADs, forums, IG, FB, that Rolex has some sort of internal issue and had to slow down but they will be shipping and filling orders “next month”. That’s been nearly 9 months now.

You also misunderstood my statement about it working for Rolex. How is it not working for them? They’re selling everything before it even gets to the case. Off the street buyers are forced to buy other things which it seems they’re doing because at my 2 ADs the shelves are bare.

Conditioning us to pay 2x and a massive price hike doesn’t sound plausible when you say it out loud eh?
